0faustaus0, good show. A friend and I were just talking about how fun it would be to bow hunt for grouse.

I took a break from deer hunting and walked some old logging trails a couple of days ago and came home with two ruffies, made up some mashed potatoes, pickled red cabbage and a couple more schnitzels. Add a rye and ginger and it was dinner time.

Had a strong start with Pearl - knocking them down as fast as I could eat my possession limit!

Those young-of-year roosters are no match for "the nose" - nice easy flushes that are good for the shooter's ego! LOL

But moving on into week 3 now, the the roosters seems to have passed the message along - "Psst - if you fly, you die. Pass it on". We had a frustrating outing on Friday when not a shot was fired. Dogs a little too fast (or middle-aged guys a little too slow?). So now these more mature birds take a little more focus and a little more work to get in the bag. Pearl was pretty proud of herself for getting this one - "The Champ".

Finally got my back fixed up so I could put in a good day. I went out with my buddy with his senior dog Riley who promptly cut her foot but we were able to to make a field expedient boot for her so she could continue. My 4 year old Bug got his lip and tongue torn up a bit by a rooster he tracked down but he wouldn't release it and though lots of blood no real harm. My old vet Chip who's 11 tracked down a dead bird the others couldn't and trotted back with it like a little king. All in all a great day with a bit more excitement than normal.

Just back from Pelee Island. Pheasants were runnin but I managed to knock down a few. Good times, with good friends/dogs, with good food and drink!

Nice dilly, I’d love to find ringnecks around here. We do have some but I have yet to really find any. Nice gamsbart as well, I need to try and make one. The one on my hat fell apart, I’ve been stuffing the metal cone with grouse tail feathers.

Judging by the lack of a dog in the pics am I to assume you are just swatting them alongside the road ??

I have no dog. And I'm not swatting along the road. There's just a metric crapton of birds around here. Take a short walk into the bush of prime habitat, and you're going to flush at least a couple.
