2018 Waterfowl thread

Was a really hot morning here in south-central Ontario for the opener, mallards and woodies were on the move, 4 woodies decoyed in at daybreak and 6 mallards came by for a look, not gonna lie... I didn't get any of them... lol, too slow... maybe tommorow morning I'll be on my Game,

Been there done that... but right now we have to soak the decoys to keep them from bursting into flame!

I seem to remember a time when the snow wasnt so wet....but the accumulation was so much that about 800 snow goose decoys looked like a heard of sheep in the distance

Today on the other hand....I was out with my nephew for waterfowl heritage day and I ended the day in a pool of my own sweat and with a nasty sunburn on my head and face

Yup... that was a fun day.

I’ve been out a few times this past week but finally connected with some birds today. Best part was hunting with my daughter, birds were just a bonus. We left the field at about 10, home for some lunch, and then went out to the archery range where she shot her first “Robin Hood” shot! Then home for a swim in the pool (pretty warm day here in sw Ontario) followed by a couple of beers for dad and a delicious dinner. Best Saturday I’ve had in I don’t know how long.

I love hunting but there is something about hunting with your kid that just resonates with a deep part of you that I cannot put into words. I know many of you understand what I mean and for those with young kids, you will know what I’m talking about someday.

What brand and where did you buy it?

There is not a lot of difference between different brands of gamestraps... I think my current ones were purchased at Cabelas and have a chest strap to hold the sides together when you are walking distances.

Great pictures boys! Great to read reports from the field and see the pictures. I am still batting 0.000 this season after two dove hunts and one goose hunt. Zero shots & Zero results.

Hoyts been posting the same pictures for 5 years with the exception of his first posted pic, the rest definitely aren’t from this season.

I was not intending them to be presented as being from this season... other than Northern opener, where I napped next to a pond and held the dog back from retrieving beavers, I have not been out. The pics I posted related specifically to the posts I was responding to... ie. Springer Spaniel hunting geese, Hunting in snowy conditions, and "game strap" etc...
