2019 Meaford Long Range Steel Challenge

Undecided if we will do it for competitors this year. There isn't a hotel shortage now that we've moved it to after the long weekend and it puts a very large burden on us logistically since ammo cannot be stored on base. With the match getting bigger each year, it gets harder and harder to do it.

I have never shot PRS and am interested in this event for 2020,
What was the longest shot and what target size was it?

I am tuning my loads for my new prs rifle right now,
And with my chronograph i have reason to believe i cannot reach past 1100m accurately

I think there was 1 target past 1100m, and it was a good sized bear target. If you’ve never attended a match, I wouldn’t make the decision to attend based on the farthest target, it likely won’t matter.

A lot of people shoot Meaford as a first match, and it’s a great match, but it can be overwhelming and very humbling if you’ve never shot a match before. I think you should shoot it next year, but try and practice with a local club match or 2 first.

There were precisely 2 shots past 1100m, both at a large bear at 1446 yards, irc. I wouldn't base your decision to attend on what works out to 2 points as it really doesn't matter. Also, if your reason for thinking that you can't reach that far accurately is because of a higher than optimal ES/SD again, I wouldn't worry as that target (and most at extended distance in PRS for that matter) have generous vertical, in the case of the bear something like 1.0+ mils of vertical. Just shoot the match. you'll drop way more points on bad wind calls and positional shooting so no sense in worrying about a couple extended long range shots ;)

The bear was over 1.3km away. I kept hitting the base. The next closest target was a moose at 940m. Hit it every time. This was also my first ever center fire prs match. It was the best time ever!

Average target distance was around 500m. And to be blunt, unless your one of the top pros the vast vast majority of people won’t hit the longest target anyways because of the wind. With my 308 I had to hold 2mil on the moose at 950m.

Thanks (and congratulations) to Ryan and Kris for putting on another AMAZING match, the 4th MLRSC! Hat’s off to the fantastic range officers, spotters, safety officer, sentry, medic and all volunteers. Of course the Sponsors deserve a huge “Thank You!”, from demonstrations to another amazing prize table. Huge thanks to our host, the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre in Meaford, couldn’t do it without you.

Looking forward to 2020, the MLRSC is the highlight of my shooting season.

Aren't you shooting a 6.5 Creedmoor? That's a pretty capable cartridge for well over 1,100m.

PRS targets are big, especially the longer ones. Generally 2-3 MOA on the longer stages.

Your rifle and ammo shouldn't be the limiter on those shots.
