2019 Waterfowl thread

We limited on specs quickly, then had to pick out the lesser Canadas.

Managed to get a teal and a few mallards, it required quite the effort. Marksmanship was a bit off today and had a few mallards and a group of geese get by me. Thats how is goes sometimes. Northern birds have started to make an appearance as there were small groups of bufflehead and some goldeneyes flying around. It will be madness in the next few weeks!

Just two of us yesturday ended with 6 birds. Two guys slept in and I left without them. I find the field, get permission, own all the decoys and invite two people and they dont even bother showing....man I need new hunting buds.

Nice, very nice.... too bad about the sleepers... that must be annoying...

Been there myself with the sleepers. Made for some bad times. Good on you for leaving them behind. No one should have time or tolerance for that crap. Moving on from those hunting buddies was the best thing I ever did

You can get into Mud from St. John through the river by the airport. Its not that bad to get through unless the water levels are extremely low. If the water is low, your outboard is bound to bump off of something. Also, when you get into the lake, the weeds are so thick and clog up into the prop making it miserable to navigate. For this reason, I rarely go into mud lake to hunt. There are a few groups of guys that consistently build blinds in there. I’d rather not go in there and disrupt anyone. Besides, it takes quite a bit of time to get into Mud and I’d rather not waste my time trying

However she shot alot of pictures and video today and that was really cool to watch on the smart tv tonight and relive this morning's hunt.

Crazy hunt this morning, ten minutes after legal time we had our limit of 15 specs, with 17 shots, then we picked 9 Canadas out in the next thirty minutes. Then we shot ducks, while thousands more geese came in, and several flocks landed and were walking around in the decoys, some within six feet of our blinds. We shot 17 ducks, and wrapped it up, with the geese still coming. We had 5-10,000 geese over us, and could have easily shot over 100.

Another 100 geese in a field we have already hunted I might try tomorrow night. 400 in a cut corn field I'm working on! This weekend cant come soon enough!

It has been limit hunt, after limit hunt on geese for the past few weeks, and I have never seen as many geese here, as I have seen this last few days. They may be gone by the weekend, but it has been a great season.
 
After two days of scouting, I couldn't locate a worthwhile field for the morning, so we are calling the 2019 waterfowl season over for us. There just isn't much for geese in our area the last two days. Four hunters , eight hunts, and 211 geese taken, so it has been a good season. Now it's time to fill some big game tags.
