Had an awesome shoot last Thursday. Managed a 3 man limit before 7:30 birds were coming in suicidal. feet down in the decoys.

The mighty 10 spoke with the authority
It is well known for
This morning
the young chessie after just recovering from surgery and myself just out of the hospital ,
with no crops cut in the area managed to find a 10 acre patch of barley that had a 10 acre test cut in it
all done by 07:30 Friday morning

Was in an uncut pea field. A small water patch was used. We (3) had a great time. The two labs raced each other and did great retrieves. 14 canadas and 7 ducks was a good first time out. Few cut fields here, and still wet.

We don't even have any fields cut yet around here.

We have a few pea fields and barley fields cut, but so few, as to make it much more difficult to find and access good fields. Both of our hunts this year so far, were on cut peas owned by the same landowner. Hopefully the combines will be out this week.

A little colder weather to get the birds moving probably wouldn't hurt either.

Hope it stays warm, so the farmers can get the crops off before the bulk of the geese get here.

Same. It's generally accepted in the area I hunt that the early goose season is for the birds (no pun intended) and that you really don't start hunting until duck opens. Hopefully their arrival coincides with fields being off.

Had another great morning with a buddy. Weren't expecting to see many ducks but about 1/2 hour after the lights came on we had no end of singles, pairs and small flocks descend upon us. We were limited out in minutes and as if on que about 1 minute after pulling the lucky ducks out of the front of the kill hole a flock of 7 specks bombed into the pocket. We knocked down 4 and within minutes finished filling our limits with Canadas. Was a heck of a morning and managed to bag an even nicer speck than the previous morning so will be bringing it to the taxidermist too, lol.

Looks like the Avian X blind is really working for you Spank. You’re making a mess of the bird population!

Yes the a-frame is awesome! I bought two of the Cabela's 360 Mag Blind Chairs on sale last week 50% off. They work fantastic in the blind. The swivel moves without a sound and the seat height is perfect for seeing through the grass above the frame and being able to stand quickly to shoot. Next year I'll grass the blind a few days earlier now that I know how much grass it takes and not use the palm mats on it. So far they haven't flared any birds circling us but I like the look of the grass much better. It blends nicely in the grain. I am really enjoying hunting from it and am not missing hunting from a layout blind at all.

Silos are an under rated decoy.

You are correct sir. I sold my full bodies and went to an all silo spread. I can fit my entire rig including my a-frame, 25 dozen silos, and all associated gear in the bed of my truck and still see fully through the rear window of my truck cap. Its awesome being able to haul your entire spread in the back of the truck and not have to buy and pull an enclosed trailer into the field.

Good to know about the Cabelas swivel chair. I almost bought one just before the spring turkey season, but when I tried the display model at the store, it squeaked like crazy so I didn't end up buying it. Maybe their floor model just had too many @sses in it over the years

My buddy and I are running about a dozen bigfoots with silos to give the spread some shape from overhead. Neither of us has a trailer and my truck is a Tacoma. So yeah being able to fit everything into my 6 foot truck bed is a necessity.

Hey don’t shoot them all save me some! ;)
