2020 IPSC National registration

So what you are saying is, Shotgun Nationals is better value for money.
More trigger time at less cost and a better sport.

Why does anyone still shoot handgun???

Value - yes, and you have to make every shot count. Can't say it is a better sport - it is a different game. It does feel more exiting at times.

Mag changes on a semiauto pistol is a bit more the sport for gentlemen. Stuffing shells up a shotgun's bunghole in competition makes me feel like a veterinarian frantically juggling suppositories.

Unless there is an evil Cooper tunnel.....

From the sounds of it I would say it’s a given there will be at least one or two cooper tunnels and possibly ports within the tunnel you’ll have the option of engaging targets from.

Best to inventory all your weaknesses and imagine the toughest stages and shots you’ve seen on YouTube of the big European Matches and practice that stuff until those arrays become practically burner targets for you.

For me, that means incorporating yoga into my training routine, or what I like to refer to as Gun yoga:)

I find I am thinking on the same lines as others in that we should be doing slot selection for more than just the teams. i'd suggest first off all provinces get the opportunity to send 1 full team in the major divisions, Open, Standard, Production, Classic, Production Optics. Revolver is not shot enough for team recognition. After that I would award slots based on membership numbers in each province. If any province does not send all full teams, those slots would be distributed out to all Provinces. Of course it would be most likely that Provinces would suddenly be able to fill 1 team per Division. Other options would be mandating that Nationals must be able to handle more people. This would limit the number of facilities capable of hosting the match and quite possibly be impossible to do. Longer matches would work too, but again, not many facilities are willing to see them shut down for a long duration for something like this.

Along with that I would like to see each section have to provide a certain number of officials. This is the biggest factor in terms of slots and duration of the match. For some of us, after 2 days of build, 1 day for prematch and 4 days for the match, I am done. I don't even stick around for tear down. It's hard to justify taking more than a full week off work when we have families to feed at home.

Would it help to break it in half?
Let's say Production and Open divisions shoot one Nationals. Then Standard and Classic divisions shoot another.
(Revolver and whatever else can be thrown in wherever.)

Also; Nobody can shoot two Canadian Nationals in one year. You can shoot in one division only.
Would something like that be feasible?

What's a cooper tunnel?

I'll assume "evil" shortens the ceiling and wall gaps.

Gathering over 250 people eh... chance of being cancelled by COVID-19 as July will be the peak of the curve and many millions will already be infected... I never registered due to recently losing my high paying career as the economy collapsed. Have fun.

The problem is that most provinces/sections don't have enough ROs to run the match. They lean on the other sections ROs traveling to their location (and it is more or less the same ROs every year) and also require mandatory work day for all competitors, e.g. ROing for a day. With Ontario being an exception.

Having two matches a year will require additional travel for all the ROs, which is an issue.

Similarly, extending a 4 days match to a 5 days match pushes ROs and match crew limits.

But said that, if section is ready to provide enough ROs for the match, that situation could change, and this is in the hands of the section members.

Not allowing someone to shoot IPSC match is pretty much against the IPSC rulebook.
Unless slot-based match signup would prohibit that, but honestly I can easily see the same few people doing well in multiple divisions, so they can be section-best competitors.

After the teams are picked why not open up the next slots to the next 5 in the rankings for each division? And so on until it's full? Could be done #5 yes/no then 6 etc or all those in 5-9 rankings go at it at 8pm. Sounds like a solvable software issue no?

I've heard rumblings that L3's should be open that deserve to be there. I'm 100% OK with doing this for Nationals.

As revo shooters we go down to the IRC every year so I got no skin in this game.

Which software that is?

Each section has it's own way to rank people and generally IPSC Canada doesn't have a single/unified membership list.

The slot-based option as I and slavex mentioned would leave it to sections how to distribute slots available for a given section.
