2021 Wild Turkey thread

Last season I decided to avoid the normal motel where I hunt turkey and slept in my car. Quiet dirt road (im lucky to have permission to hunt a field that is down a dead end road in a secluded area), not a soul around, peaceful, stars and moonlight shining through the sunroof.. best part is I wake up and I’m right there ready to go. It was so pleasant I’m doing it again this year.

I’ve also done this numerous times and I enjoy it very much. I just fold down the rear seats in the SUV and throw down a couple yoga mats and a sleeping bag. Its super comfortable and as you said, wake up and go.

The downside, of course, is that you don’t get to pass a coffee shop on your way to your spot. But do everything right and you’ll be tagged out and in line at the drive thru in an hour. ;)

This is very true.....but it opens up the opportunity to fire up a small burner and make a fresh espresso before venturing off.

Wonder what ontario curfew laws will do to truck sleepovers.

Sleeping in your car out in pretty much the middle of nowhere to go hunting, outdoors with nobody else around...

If this qualifies as breaking the rules of a curfew put in place during these restrictions, the rules never were about stopping covid.

Geez, 107 posts and not one dead turkey.:confused:V:I:

Don't know about B.C. but the Ontario turkey season doesn't start until April 25. Provincial government just announced travel restrictions due to covid 19 and limited to essential travel with police able to stop you and question you as to your destination . Sounds like I may not be making the 2 hour trip on the opener to my spot.

I am hunting the way I hunted last year when they shut everything down... sleeping in my truck on PRIVATE PROPERTY... I hunt on private property too... my food is all in.the coolers in the back... don't contact anyone while out there.

Im still going hunting. If i get fined itll make an interesting court case. The govt sold me a license and caused me to be out of work and closed every outlet for mental and physical health and forced me to stand in lines with infected ppl to buy food with what lil money i have saved while attempting to keep me as a prisoner in my own home and restrict my movement and fine me for trying to acquire a food source in a manor entrenched by a segment of society. Ya i can sling some bull at a judge. Whether i win or not is irrelevant its a fight worth fighting

Doug ford just announced the end of the spring turkey hunting season for many people

Indeed

As my son reminded me today, snow birds can come home, international flights to China are still available, but I can’t drive to Ontario to hunt turkey.
I wonder if Doug Ford will reimburse me for my non-resident tag and non-resident small game permit? NOT!

OH well, one more turkey will live in zone 65 this season.

What I've heard from a few cop buddy's no one is enforcing the stop on side of the road.

I'm only 25 minutes from my camp but have to drive right by the OPP station to get there, luckily I don't pass the Tim Horton's in town.

I will be no different for me than it was last year. I’ll be heading out as often as it takes to fill the two tags that I purchased.
Food is essential and I hunt for food. I find it difficult to believe that I’d be safer waiting in lines at a grocery store with hundreds of other random people than it would be to hunt turkeys in solitude in the bush.

I'll be out hunting as well. I mean if people are allowed to be going out for exercise that's my exercise plus know one will be around me.

I doubt lone turkey hunters sleeping in their vehicles will have anything to worry about. Or for that matter, turkey hunters in general. If they are that desperate to find people to hand covid fines out to then we are in far worse trouble than the cost of a ticket.

I'll be going hunting. I'm on private property pretty much the entire time and within 5 - 45 minute drive of my house. It's food, exercise, and mental well being all wrapped into one.

Common sense means I won't be car pooling with potential hunting partners, etc.
