I didnt see a 2022 whitetail thread. Got this one opening day.

Only because I want to bump the picture... with an update.

Here is the bullet.

After all these years of hunting I got my first whitetail ever a few weeks back.
Mostly mule deer around these parts but the whitetails are around in pockets here and there.
Gonna see if we can't connect again with the wife's tag and sneak back into that area
posted this pic in another thread already but what the hell ;)

Got this guy Oct 7. It was pretty cool because I had my 10 year old son with me. I first saw him Sept 1 and decided he would be a buck worth going after. He gave me the slip a few times but I finally got him due to the dry conditions so I sat near the only water around.

I'm feeling a bit twitchy this year since I'm tagged out early and will miss the rut but he's a buck I'm more than happy to hang my tag on.

Saw a nice buck this morning. Darn thing was bedded down in the tall grass and all of a sudden popped up a hundredish yards from my stand. I needed him to walk right so ofcourse he went left. Sun had been up almost an hour when this happened, maybe he was sleeping one off?

Congrats to all who filled their tags :)

Southwestern Ontario is very slow. First warmer temperatures and now the full moon and blood moon to add insult to injury.

Have not seen one since the opening on Monday. Few tracks in areas that usually are full of tracks. Talked to others in my area and they have similar experience. Fingers crossed things improve by end of this week. ;)

Prepping to go out this weekend, brought my 30-06 to the range at lunch and could not zero it for shyte.
It kept wandering more and more, I thought maybe I was adjusting in the wrong direction, but I wasn't.
I took one last shot and the nice crisp reticle turned into a squiggly mess (does not come through well through the camera, but the scope is shot).
No time now to go buy and mount another, then sight it in before the weekend. What a bummer.

I got this 8 point last night. First buck I've seen in almost 4 full day sits. Incredibly warm and windy thus week, Currently 20 degrees and 50km winds as I sit in stand typing this.

Noone I hunt with has seen a big buck in shooting hours yet, 2 guys have seen them in the dark either heading home or going to hunt in the morning. I've seen about 10 does n fawns as well so I can't complain.

You always seem to hammer some nice bucks!

I had a similar experience with a really cheap Tasco on a .300WM. It was very inconsistent and I didn't trust it. So I bought another scope that was more to my liking. I sighted in, and then first deer I liked I shot at. When he went down, I remember turning the rifle over across my hands and saying, 'And its over.'

Little archery meat buck, back in September. Rifle season coming up on the 21st, then late archery in December.

just got back from checking my trailcams..... sucks that we have the nov10 to 20 mulie rut closure but on the bright side I saw 3 different whitetail bucks over 72hrs of camera time. The mulies on the cam are in full day time but the WT are early shooting light morning pics.
Nice and snowy out and -10 to -20s overnight the past few days..... that's gonna get em moving for sure ;)
good luck everyone!

Man it's quiet in my area of swo. I have yet to hear a single shot. I see deer moving before and after dark but nothing during the day. So darn warm. Even the lots that get dogged aren't stirring anything up. Congrats to those who have harvested though.
