First Saskatchewan buck for me, forgot to get pictures before we stripped him of his horns. Got him late opening day.

Not so great in southwestern QC. I heard very few shots on opening day, and then we got temperatures in the low 20's all week. I found a doe's hangout - saw her on 3 separate occasions and was hoping there'd be a buck around her, but nothing. No scapes, rubs - zip. The temps changed this week and I had high hopes for this last weekend, but my doe is still walking around with no suitor.

I wandered into one of my blinds this morning shortly after sunrise making my way as quickly and quietly as possible which wasn't very easy going through a foot to foot and a half in low spots of hard packed wind blown snow at times on a sprained ankle.

I got settled into the blind, turned on the heater, loaded my rifle and sat for what I thought would be a few hours sit. Well 15 minutes at most passed and on the knoll ahead and to my left about 80 yards out steps a doe and fawn. A second later here they come and passed the blind at about 30 yards. I video'd them walking by and thought well there should be a couple bucks chasing them as there has been lots of activity on my cellular cams. Sure enough about 3 minutes later a little 2x2(4 point in eastern lingo) buck pops up in the same spot and here he comes. I video'd him coming and then thought I'm going to take him if he presents a shot as I was alone and he would be enough for me to handle to drag and load on a sprained ankle.

The day before there had been a little older buck with his rack broken clean off his right side from fighting on my camera. I was going to hold out for him but decided to shoot the smaller buck so I set my phone down and put my rifle resting on my lap muzzle pointed out the front window to my shoulder and moved to shoot out the side window anticipating the buck would cross the same spot as the doe and fawn. He came right down the same path as the doe and fawn but decided to take a short cut to them cutting inward closer to the blind and when he stepped into my crosshairs he was about 17 yards from the blind. I squeezed of a 140 Hornady Interlock from the 270. The buck lurched forward head down, hesitated then tried to run but was wobbly. He passed by the blind and dropped dead behind it about 10 yards distance. My WT tag was filled not 20 minutes into the morning.

I got out of the blind, dragged him out to the field and as I was putting a tag on him the broken antler buck popped up in the same spot barely 50 yards away and watched me for at least 2 minutes before turning around and going back where he came from. Oh well.

I walked out, got my truck, drove back and as I was about 100 yards from my deer a nice little 4x4 (8 point) steps out and stands there for 20 seconds or so staring at me approaching. I went back this afternoon to set a camera over the gut pile to video some coyote action and there was the doe, fawn and 8 point buck standing not 40 yards from my blind. Now to try and fill my antlerless and antlered mule deer tags. Fingers crossed. First pic is the buck with the broken off rack.

Nice deer, and thank you all for contributing so far to the thread.

My Dad and I processed the two deer, and today my wife and I vacuum sealed the rest of the meat.

Freezer is full for another year.

A few friends didnt fill their tags yet, so maybe another will be in the works for bow.

No offense but from "I got settled into the blind..." to "First pic is the buck with the broken off rack..." it's one sentence.

Old guys like myself need some spacing, some paragraphs.

In zone 48 ON we had some success and some excuses for not great success. Wolves at the top of the list. Very quiet rifle season this year with few shots heard and we can hear for miles.

Iron Cat, nice deer, nice rifle, and nice hat! I recognize you from my time in Alberta, so good to 'see' you. We spent a bit of time together a couple of times. I go by another name on AO. I just recently signed up here on this GunNutz site.

Tried pulling off a stalk on this buck, he busted me and took off. Stopped for a brief moment at 200 yards. All it took was a single 195gr hornady interlock out of the 8x57 flying at 2570 fps, punching through both shoulders to seal the deal. He only made an extra 50ish yards on two hind legs before realizing he was dead. Strong animals and a will to live!

I hunt 48 also. Lots of canine tracks. Gut piles disappeared overnight. Didn’t hear many shots this year. Lots of complaints from other groups, definitely heard a lot of frustration and excuses. Couple groups seemed to implode in the bush this year.

Was pretty successful year for me though, I filled 3 tags. My first archery kill included. Fourth tag filled final rifle day by a group member on a push. Was pumped to not have to return for archery, since my tag was the final tag. I love being in the woods, but I started setting up in September and hunted all of October. Little drained by the end of it.

No offence taken. When I'm typing from my phone I'm not worrying about spacing and paragraphs I can barely see the keyboard to spell correctly on this thing never mind worrying about the rest.

However often times when I do space things correctly from iPhone it doesn't post in the correct format? Iphone thing I guess? Anyways I went back and corrected it should you wish to reread such an awesome post again! ;)
