Some changes to controlled hunt, which I don’t partake. Don’t see any differences that matter to me. Moose points are identical to previous years where I live, and where I hunt. Tons of whining on the Ontario moose groups on Facebook. Guess they expected a massive reduction in points from one year to another.

Yes not much change but didn’t expect to see much change. Certainly not a fan of the new system but it is what it is, unfortunately.

Our group is quite low on points due to being very successful before the new lottery system. We had a high point older guy at home here last year who netted us an archery tag. This year we might have to trick my friends daughter to stick with us for a week as she has a lot of points. I probably won’t live long enough to draw a tag in our preferred area because of low points.

They've cut the bull tag quota in 17 by over half to just 31 resident tags which is a bit of a nail biter going into this year. 190 total so down ~30% from previous year. Interesting though it is still above last years harvest of 21 and 3 with the lowest hunter participation since 2014, even through covid and the border shutdown. MNRF issued 15 of those bull tags to people with just 5 pts per their data set. I'm not sure how accurate their survey estimates are at under 1000 in 30,000km2 as we viewed a few different moose at opposite ends of just our little lake simultaneously.
