Great when a plan comes together.Today's hunt, a beautiful warm november day. And a picture of the first day I actually owned my dream of hunting land when a buck was nice enough to pay a visit.

Nice chocolate antlers on that one.I hunted this big beautiful Mulie in the woods half way up the Interior mountains of BC with my trusty Ruger No 1 chambered for 45/70. I seated my casted and powder coated 405 grn bullet over 47 grns of imr 3031. This buck was bewitched by a group of does that I was watching as he occasionally poked his head out of the bush sensing the danger...that was until the temptation overwhelmed him to the point he threw caution to the wind and took his last chance. The casted slug sailed the 50 short yards pounding through both lungs leaving me shaking in a paradoxical state half remorseful half overjoyed but mostly super greatfull for this beauty buck in the rut of 2024.
What a great story, congratulations to your daughter and to you for raising her right.I apologize in advance for the long story this was a great time and I feel the need to share it.
The year 2024, this is... "The Daddy, Daughter Hunt"! Most years I set out on a hunt alone looking for that buck or doe to fill the freezer. Little did I know this would be the 1st time my daughter would ask to hunt with me. She comes and says Dad this year I would like to help fill the freezer. Little teary-eyed in hearing those words I say lets go get some tags. I set her up with a nice Cz 527 .223 rem rifle and vortex 3x9 and off we go scouting. Comes across a few areas with some potential shooters. Spent a day on phones calls and door knocking. Being in Saskatchewan that is the way now with the new Trespass law. A few yes's and plenty of No's we now have are target area. Happen to get on a few right out the gate but as luck has it she wasn't able to get a shot off. Last light approaching quick we scoot over to another area with permission. An as luck would have it my daughter looks over and says DAD BIG BuCK! We gather ourselves and get downwind of the buck who was waiting on a doe. Got on our hands and knees crawling into a shooting position, I range the buck hes at 165yds. Being my daughters 1st time she says I cant shoot that far you take him Dad, I'm proud of you. Taking in everything she just said i said okay my girl and I let him have it dropping him in his tracks. She screams OMG Dad you dropped him proceeds to hug me and starts crying. We thank the buck for helping to provide for our family and take him home. Now 2 days later it's all on my girl to get it done. We travel to an area of permission find a few does rooting around. She says that one is good enough for me lets go. Now we are on a stalk because these deer have the field of advantage. We close the distance to 108yds she gets into shooting position and ping, pang the deer hear the truck door open and run off... guess what happened, mom here on the other side of the treeline steps out to pee and scares the deer away... Now my daughter in her frustration and disappointment gives mom a piece of her mind for scaring the deer away. She says that's it I'm done lets go home, me being Dad I say no the hunt must go on.. we rush over to a field and there they are a few does and a buck. Again last light fast approaching, my daughter springs into action, yells give me ranges! I peg the buck at 200 an doe at 100. She says the Doe is getting it! Aims, fires, and misses! Doe runs now shes at 180 an walking away, turns broadside I say 200. She thinks about, I say its up to you if you want to try for it. She proceeds to get down on one knee gets her breathing under control and smokes that doe! In my surprise I didnt know what to do, was just like OmFG you dropped her WOOoo!!! We get to the doe she thanks the doe the tears flow and the rest of the story is a priceless moment for her and myself. Thank you for reading this to its entirety, a memory I'll never forget and just had to share.View attachment 855368View attachment 855369View attachment 855370View attachment 855371
