2024 Wild Turkey Thread

Thats a big bird! 1.5” spurs puts that Tom at about 4-5 years old. Tell me you got that on video!!!

Nope. Didn't happen the way they normally do. This guy was strutting for a hen on the other side of the field, 800 yards away. We humped our way around, down through a creek bottom, through thick brush and finally closed in enough to take the shot. Shot was actually through the brush, very tiny window but the TK7's got it done.

It’s too bad Kent stopped loading the TK7 line. It worked really well in my 20 gauge. Beauty bird, well done.

Agreed. Nice load, which is why I bought a bunch after my initial patterning results.

Spot and stalk turkey...very cool. No call required lol. I like it. I still haven't done it but may give it a go next spring.

i was busy cleaning a tree line today on the farm loading scrap metal . i came back for a second load and there were three jakes about 15 yards in front of me as i rounded a corner. i watched them for a bit before they melted into the tree line. i drove down the length of the field and got to see a good sized tom with some hens. they too soon dissapeared into the bush. i had a shotgun and ammunition and turkeys but no license so had to watch them go.first birds i have seen in the last six to eight weeks.i am going to get a turkey licence and see if i can bag one as this old boy has never gave it a whirl.

Do you like the TK7 ?

I have a bunch in 20 ga and haven't shot it yet.

I love it. It patterns great in my 870, is high density and is #7, which is the smallest size we can use here. It really is a great turkey load, but I think it didn't last long on the market due to the rise of TSS popularity. Once TSS became a thing, guys are getting killer patterns out of loads with small shot like #9's. Shooting #7 TSS would be insanely inefficient. So until Ontario gets with the times and allows us to shoot 8's or 9's, I would not bother with TSS. My longest shot with the TK7's was just over 45 yards. I would not shoot any farther.

I used to shoot the old winchester xtended range high density in #6's (before #7 was allowed). That stuff was awesome, but was discontinued due to the price of tungsten. I believe it was 12g/cc. TK7 is 15g/cc and TSS is 18g/cc. TK7 was very reasonably priced considering the cost of factory TSS loads, and still considerably more dense than lead shot.
