Note 1:
In view of the current ban on the legal purchase or transfer of the type of single action revolvers used in our sport, it has been suggested we allow the use of a single revolver and Double Action revolver(s), shot single action only.
All other SASS covenants regarding ammunition, pistol calibre rifle, shotgun and costume would remain in place.
If there is interest, a suitable, local, unofficial category will be created.
Please contact the posse(s) for further information.
Note 2:
Non-members who intend to shoot at a facility where they are not a member, should obtain an Invitation letter, issued by the posse, to attend the matches.

The Eastern Ontario Shooting Club (EOSC) is a gated facility. Pre-registration is required, particularly for non EOSC members who wish to become a match participant.
Non EOSC participants are always welcome and once registered, will be provided with a gate code to enter the facility when they receive confirmation of their registration.
Bottled water is provided, but unless otherwise mentioned, there is no chuckwagon, so bring your own grub!
There are flush toilets, with running water, summer and winter, in the heated toilet buildings, on the EOSC portion of the Range site.

There is no entry until 8:30 AM and no shots can be fired until after 9:00 AM

Members and guests are reminded there have been complaints regarding speeding, presumably on Drouin Road, leading to the range. Please note the speed in much of Cheney, including the Drouin Road and the portion of the highway that runs through Cheney, has been reduced to 50 KPH. Horses, in this rural community, are often ridden on Drouin Road. We want to be good neighbours/users of the facilities and avoid conflict, which could escalate, as has happened in the areas around other ranges.

Set-up assistance is requested, Thursday and/or Fridays, preceding match days. Painting targets, adjusting placement of stands etc.

FEBRUARY 21 WINTER CAMP MATCH IS CANCELLED.
TOO MUCH SNOW BLOCKING OUR ACCESS GATE, PARKING AREA AND ON THE RANGE FLOOR.
OUR JOHN DEERE SNOWBLOWER CAN'T HANDLE IT.

Red Storm will be at the Square Circle Wranglers Ranch at 10:00 AM Friday, April 17, readying the range for the Spring Round-Up match on Saturday.
If you are available, Red would appreciate some help painting targets and adjusting stands

ACCOMODATIONS, UNIQUE TO OUR CANADIAN SITUATION, TO ALLOW COMPETITORS TO PARTICIPATE, HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE CATEGORIES, FIREARMS AND CALIBRES PERMITTED.
FOR EXAMPLE, A 1911, 45ACP STYLE PISTOL IS NOT THE ONLY HANDGUN PERMITTED. THERE WILL BE OTHER OPTIONS.

I think it's a great idea to include double actions.
Even if it's a just for fun category
I don't get why 357 and 9mm legal but other cartridges not.
As long as new shooters are shooting cast bullets then who cares if they are shooting a 30-30
Huge money to get into cowboy action.
Plus with handgun freeze the only revolvers that can be legally bought are antique status.
If you opened up to double action that would open it up to new shooters to buy Webleys or whatever double action that they already have. This is way cheaper than first gen SAA colts!
I think it's a really good idea to open up the rules

I don't get why 357 and 9mm legal but other cartridges not. Not sure what you are referring to here. We allow .22's for Buckaroos and as low as .32 under SASS rules, but Canadian regulations class .32 calibre handguns as Prohibited, even before the freeze.
As long as new shooters are shooting cast bullets then who cares if they are shooting a 30-30 Even shooting lead bullets with reduced loads will damage the steel targets. Even our AR400 and AR500 steel.

Why does SASS alow 9mm and 357magnum? They are both 20th century cartridges.
So if a new Canadian shooter already owns a 44 special which is a 20th centurycartridge. I'm fine with it.

In side matches if 45-70 and other pre 1898 cartridges are being used. Then new shooters using 444 marlin, 33 Winchester or other cartridges that they happen to own. As long as shooting cast bullets. It shouldn't make any difference or hurt the targets anymore than a 45/110

That is a recent development, made at the Territorial Governors meetings at End of Trail and happened when the Pandemic, and world wide conflicts started affecting availability and the subsequent manufacture of firearms in those calibres. It's more a matter of the external appearance of the firearm used for SASS, in other parts of the world. The Territorial Governors annually make changes and adjustments to the rules and covenants. Ruger OMVs and NMV, for example are 1873 models, externally and function like old Colts, but are more improved and robust internally.

It shouldn't make any difference or hurt the targets anymore than a 45/110 Steel damage again. Our AR500 was damaged during a Buffalo Match. Too much pounding, from .38-55s and .45-70s. Match fees wouldn't cover the replacement cost of the steel targets and the reactive nature of that "CLANG" is what seems to draw a lot of shooters.

The rules for revolver ammunition currently says:
- Must be centerfire cartridges of at least .32 caliber and no larger than .45 caliber or percussion calibers of at least .36 caliber and no larger than .45 caliber.
- Must be in a cartridge commonly available in revolvers. Examples include, but are not limited to, .32-20, .32 Magnum, .357 Magnum, .38 Special, .44 Magnum, .44-40, and .45 Colt. (Includes some semi-auto pistol cartridges, e.g. 9mm, 10mm, and .45 ACP)
- Standard velocity .22 caliber, rim-fire ammunition is allowed within the Buckaroo Category only.
- Although the .32 caliber revolvers and .36 caliber cap and ball revolvers are legal, they may not be powerful enough to handle all reactive targets.
As you can see, pretty much any single action revolver is allowed, including 44 spl.

For the rifle ammunition, it is pretty much the same:
- Must be centerfire of at least .32 caliber and not larger than .45 caliber.
- Must be in a caliber commonly available in revolvers. Examples include, but are not limited to, .32-20, .32 Magnum, .357 Magnum, .38 Special, .38-40, .44-40, .44 Special, .44 Magnum, and .45 Colt.
- The only allowed exceptions are the .25-20 and .56-50. No rifle calibers such as .30-30 or .38-55 are allowed.
- Buckaroo/Buckarette Category competitors choosing to utilize .22 caliber firearms must use standard velocity .22 caliber rim-fire ammunition only.

In addition to that, there are velocity parameters to respect:
The maximum velocities are 1000 fps for revolvers and 1400 fps for rifles. Ammunition that exceeds these velocities is considered illegal (this does not include ammunition that does not meet the power factor). Pocket pistols, derringers, and long-range rifles are exempt from the power factor and velocity requirements.

Finally, in a main match, we usually load 10 rounds in the rifle. Rifle targets are not far, 15 to 25 yard most of the time. Even if a 30-30 or 444 marlin was loaded down under the 1400fps velocity, I doubt you would be able to load 10 rounds.

In addition to the 4 open SASS approved categories (plus Lady and Junior subcategories) also offered will be:
OUTLAW category; Any pistol hat looks like a 1911, be it in .22, 9mm etc. plus any rifle and shotgun legal for Cowboy Action Shooting.
ROGUE category; Any semi-auto pistol that was produced before the end of WWII, in any calibre, such as Colt 1903, Colt 1908, Luger P08, Walther P38, Browning HP Mauser M96, Astra 300 and 400 etc. and any rifle and shotgun that are legal for Cowboy Action Shooting.
If you intend to shoot OUTLAW or ROGUE, you MUST mention this when you pre-register.
Pre-registration is required to allow confirmation of your registration and to receive your GATE CODE allowing entry to the range.
