What brand of rifle would be on par or above a SAKO that comes with a detachable mag in .204? It seems the SAKO laminated stainless in .204 (grey wolf) is difficult to find.

I don't know if you would consider it on par with Sako, but CZ is available in a detachable mag and .204. I have one in a CZ 527 American.

You could be like me and order one then wait the 13 months for it to arrive. And yes it was worth the wait. You could also order a Cooper in the New Year but I'm not sure if the magazine is detachable or not. One last option is to find a Sako in 222 or 223 and rebarrel to the 204, this would be the quickest option but maybe not the cheapest. I have a really nice Sako 75 varmint laminate in 222 that I was going to rebarrel to 204 if the 204 was going to take much longer to arrive but now it will become a 8 twist 223 one day when I use up all the 222 rounds I have loaded for it.

If you're gonna spend $1800 and more why not just go with a custom that takes AI mags. Id build a nice rifle off a custom action like a Stiller with a Custom Hart Barrel and AI stock. That is if money is no object

I'd seriously look into a donor rifle and get a barrel of the contour you want and have a gunsmith go at it (true action, tune trigger, cut and ream and crown) and be well under $1800.00.
