I am looking for a new rifle I need help... .204 or .223...or other

It will only be used for paper, varmint, coyote.

I shoot alot.

.204...Not a barrel burner..flat shooter...buck wind good..less recoil

.223..Not a barrel burner...cheap ammo...more ft/lbs on target...not a flat as .204

Thanks

.223 for me.
served me well on duty, for coyotes and mule deer.
i am not a friend of the newfangled stuff, not proven enough, seals-gimmick
mostly.

If you shoot a lot of factory ammo and your coyotes are mostly inside 300 yards (as in calling) the .223 is KING! Now if you roll your own and shoot coyotes over 300 yards most of the time, the .204 becomes interesting as does the .22-250 ;) In a bolt rifle, you can see your bullet impact with either the .204 or .223 easily, so recoil isn't worth mentioning

i love my .223 have had good luck with her, but to be fare i don't know or have any experince with .204 My opinion is though i like the tried and tested stuff that has been out forever not ont for the sale gimmicks, but saying that .204 must perform or they would have never produced it commerically

I have both and use the 223 more just because I don't reload and the ammo is cheap and readily available. Don't really notice much differance in shooting them, they both leave gaping holes in gophers at quite a distance.

what province is a .223 legal to shoot deer with?
and the same for a .204 ruger

Manitoba you can use a 223. I'm not advocating it, and suggest it only be considered having fully thought it through, but deer can be taken easily with a 223. I've got an Uncle that does it all the time.

I can load and shoot 80 grain bullets out of my Tikka .223, and I'm pretty sure that would drop a deer with a proper shot. It's illegal here of course, but interesting to know I could go to BC (not far from here) and try it out.
I love my .223, but it has a heavy barrel (24 inch too) and I honestly can't hit anything shooting off hand with it as it's too barrel heavy. Having said that, I just use a bipod and the accuracy is amazing, though I still have only shot it inside of 300 yards. Gophers are launched 10 to 15 feet in the air when I hit them inside of 100 yards with factory ammo, and I've hit them easily out to 200 + yards with it, which is a hell of a shot on something that is only about 2.5 inches across.
.223 is cheap to shoot when you can find it, but because of the wars overseas the supply is down quite a bit. If you do plan on going that way, get some reloading equipment while you're at it, or you could be counting your shots.

Ive owned a number of popular varmint cartridges ecept for the .204 Ruger. From what I hear its a pretty sweet little round that really punches gophers with zero recoil and kills coyotes as well as a .223

alot of dead deer would disagree with you
I agree but im just stating that "I" dont think its enough
it is enough in good circumstances but I have seen a few get away
and im sure there are deer that get away with a bigger gun too
jsut me
