.204 Ruger

Just acquired a Remington 700 VLS in .204 Ruger. I haven't done much more than sight it in, just yet, but accuracy looks to be very promising. As for terminal performance, we shall see ... ;)
 
I have a remington SS Super Varmit Master and I am not happy with it with Factory loads, it shoots a 5 shot 1.2" group at best. I bougt a bunch of factory loads and have not tried to load any shels yet, I would assume it will get better but I was hoping for something I coul djust buy ammo for.
 
I've got one. Accuracy is fine, and the trajectory has to be seen to be believed. Hitting steel gongs out past 500 yards is a no-brainer if there's no wind. This thing is unbelievably flat.
But the best part - terminal performance. I've NEVER seen ANYTHING that's as consistently devastating as the 204, at least on gophers. I have used everything under the sun on gophers, and the 204 is far and away the most entertaining. The 22-250 and 243 (and 25's trought to 375's and up) are close, but recoil too much to get a good close up view of the acrobatics.
 
for a real short time I had a Browning Abolt stalker (Shot show special) in 204 that I bought off a friend to help him out, quickly swapped it to Doug on CGN EE. I only fired one load in it, but it showed decent accuracy potential. I like 204..but not just sure what rifle I'd like it most in. Someday I will give it another shot in a rifle I like

I have a .204 Ruger with heavy barrel laminated stock, Harris Bipod and Browning scope. It very accurate and acrobatics with gophers are amazing. The gopher jumps up and does a jig lol
 
Accuracy is fine but for terminal results will put up a 223 with 40 vmaxs any day. especially close in , I think the 223 does a better job of exploding gophers and crows. Should mention too that can't get more than 3900 fps with 32's so far with powders I have tried. If weather co-operates hope to test some more, a lot more ;)
 
Since the time this rather old thread started, I've bought another .204 (a CZ527 American), ordered another (a Tikka), and have started a custom project. And we don't even have gophers. ;) :D
 
I bought a 204 about 3 years ago, when they first came out. It is a nice rifle to shoot, I couldnt get it too shoot any better than 1" with my reloads. Then I bought my 17 remington and I havent shot the 204 since... I am thinking about selling it....
 
I got a .204 Ruger in a Rem 700 SPS Varmint and it is deadly accurate. I was on the fence about the gun and the cartridge for a long time but finally caved.

Although the trigger on the 700 is stupidly tough, the gun will shoot cloverleafs all day long. I'm shooting the 40gr Hornady factory loads and haven't had any problems.
 
I have a 204 in a H&R single shot. Never shot anything but the Hornady factory loads and they sure make a mess of the gophers. Unfortunately i don't handload so i've been thinking about getting rid of it and picking up a 223. Won't be as much fun on the gophers but should be a little cheaper to shoot. 204 seems to work pretty good on coyotes too, shot one last week at about 200 yds and he made it about 10 feet before dropping.
