Ive decided im going to take the plunge on a 204 Ruger to replace my 223 as my primary yote gun. Love the look of the Kimber Varmint, maybe even the the Tikka Hunter could be an option as I love my Tikka laminated stainless. Does anyone have a favorite model of 204 or another recommendation on another option I should possibly consider? This rifles will be used out to about 300 yards max and used for calling sets, as well as when we run the hounds so weight is some what of a consideration. At worst I can use my 223 as a lighter alternative for when the hounds are in the bush. Any advice on alternatives will be considered and much appreciated.

Cheers, Dscott

i have owned 3 204s and my newest 204 is a rem 700 VLSS. Its a heavier rifle but i dont mind as i am a bigger guy and like a heavier rifle for stability. But if your packin i would go with a cz or a bit liter rifle. I love my 204 and im not scareed to take dogs down at 4-500 yards.

I ordered another 204 in a Sako Varmint Laminate Stainless. It wil be my forth one and allthough it will not be my main coyote calling 204 it will get it's fair share of use. My first choice when out calling in the winter will still be my Browning Stainless Stalker because of it's wieght, synthetic stock and stainless barrel. Whatever gun you order make sure it has a DM so you don't end up dropping shells in the snow everytime you load or unload it.

I've tried a CZ527 Varmint, 700VLSS,Tikka Varmint, and Savage 12 Varmint in 204. For accuracy the CZ was the worst, The Tikka and Savage the best. I can use factory ammo and don't even have to reload. The Tikka has the edge because it uses a clip which I like.

I have a T3lite in 204, i had a 700spswhich was very good just to heavy to lug through snow banks when calling coyotes. I do like the Tikka as it carries nicely.
