as far as I am concerned if it is legal and I have a tag, it is DOWN.

White, black, brown or purple, that big boy I am going to make Stew out of.

It's a genetic mutation is all. Like blue eyes.

Exactly!
So we shouldn't shoot black bears that are not black? All the other colors should be spirit bears?
Deer that only grow antlers on one side. How about white wolves, any ungulate with a drop tine.
It's just a defective gene, if you won't to pass on it ok, I'm not.

anything to get offended.. then get your 5 seconds of fame crying about it on the leftwing liberal fake news.

I wouldnt have shot it.. let the people worship their talkin white moose god.. cant be any worst than that idiot trudeau they love so much...

You can get a tag for a moose, the personal restraint comes in when you make the choice not to kill a unique one. You shouldn't shoot a white moose because we don't need to kill anything and everything interesting. Half of being a sportsman is having a respect for nature and all the weird and wonderful phenomena to discover therein.
:agree:

Who shot it no one knows. There are a lot of people of various races that don't give a rat's a## about any religious significance or have no respect for regulations. Some don't even know the regulations and until someone else points it out. Possibly the white moose was hit by the bullet that went through the brown/black one. Perhaps after the mistake was made the hunter just decided to walk away as opposed to self reporting to the MNRF. Cow/calf mistakes are made all the time and a hunter that walks away from some error where he/she should have known better is nothing more than a poor hunter.

I read one article that stated that the area this moose was shot in made it illegal to kill a moose with over 50%
White on its body but I do not know the Ontario regulations so cannot comment further .

Apparently two WMU's in ON have regs on the shooting of white or piebald moose. I'm sure they are as good to eat as the brown ones. - dan

So was it illegal to shoot a white moose or cows in general in that region, or is the band just calling it poaching because they are chapped about it?

Band members shoot a white moose and it’s called a ceremonial harvest or some such thing, outsiders shoot a white moose and all of a sudden poaching is being screamed. I’d like to hear what the ont hunting regs say about this for that area, it very well could be poaching but it also could’ve been a legal kill.

Shooting one is bad luck? Never heard of that before.

If anything it's good luck. Luck that it made it be a mature animal. Luck that you found such a rare beast. Luck that you were able to harvest it. Goes with any hunt really.

I believe in science and it's simply a rare genetic condition. A cool thing to see and even cooler thing to harvest if you are so lucky. Also the meat tastes the same.

I’d pass even if legal, love seeing one. As for them being sacred, I shoot bear, ravens, and wolves. I’ve seen a native with seven head of game in his truck at 8 in morning. Shooting pregnant elk in spring for dog food. These people I met were not Mother Natures conservationists! I did have cross hairs on a nice brown and white whitetail. Just was not looking for a doe.

It is just a moose. White, brown, black... who cares. If it was illegal in that area it should have been left alone, but if it is legal, then fire away.
