208gr A-Max

now sit down

and repeat after me....

"The A-max is not a hunting bullet"
"The A-max is not a hunting bullet"
"The A-max is not a hunting bullet"

now keep saying that untill it sinks in....

:D  Wrong forum. The only hunting I do besides shotgun is in thick hardwood under 100 yards or with a 223.

We can delete this one, I posted it in the correct forum. Unless of course someone has an answer to the first question. ;)

Cheers

The amax line of bullets has been very successfully as a hunting bullet!

The 208gr Amax will make an outstanding hunting bullet when impact velocities fall below 2400fps- that's a long ways out.

I have punched through 5/16" mild steel plates at 385yds with a 155gr Amax out of a 308. That should break the skin on a deer don't you think?

These bullets thrive at LOW impact velocities usually found at extended distances.

Always wanted to try them and this year I will be!
Going to load up a 2600 fps 308 load for whitetail field hunting and zip one through!
I myself have punched through some wood blocks and it seems to penetrate quite well at 100 yards.
One through the boiler should ruin a whitetails day?

I have a hard time believing the A-Max would be any different than a match king since its jacket is so thin.

Accuracy is not the issue, your right I have many boxes of bonded, and core locks, but at 308 velocities, there suposed to work real good in the boiler.
I want to try it, may cost me a shot or 2 until i get her lined up and clear for a perfect double lunger, but hey!
Like i have said at 100 yards the penetrate fairly large blocks of wood.
I am sure 100% that they will ace a whitetail, and with good results.

But tod your right why not use an old faithful, you improve your chances and can take a shot if mr right walks out! not having to wait for the perfect double lunger, if it even happens.
