Hello folks. Is there buck shot 20g shells commercially available? I have a trouble finding anything for 20g, every time I see sluggers in 20g I just buy a few boxes. Never seen buckshot in 20g though. Any how effective it will be for a deer?

I don't recall ever seeing a commercial buckshot load for a 20 gauge, although I haven't looked either. But 3" 20 gauge shells often replicate the performance of 12 gauge 23/4" shells with equal shot weight. That being said I suppose you could work up a 9 pellet 00 buck load for the 3" 20. I have a low opinion of buckshot on game except when used in very specific circumstances, so I think the results with the 20 gauge load would be equally as miserable as the results with the 12 gauge given the same pellet count.

I looked for buckshot for my wife's 20 gauge. The biggest I found is #3 Buck (winchester). Just about all the ammo manufacturers make buckshot for the 20, but I think the biggest size they make is #2. I found the #3 in in a store in Edmonton.

20 gauge buckshot is for varmints/small game

I was curious at one time of the effectiveness of 20 gauge buckshot, so pre-season I tried these (#3 buck) on jackrabbits just south of
Moose Jaw, on a farmer friends property.
Well I tell you I was not impressed, the one jack I did get, it looked like it went to sleep.....only because one single pellet hit it's chest.
A 22 LR bullet would have done more damage, than that little pill.
This was at 25 yards too.
I would never use these on deer, fox at the most, and only when really really close.
Stay with slugs for deer my friend.

No#3 buck also know as triple A [AAA] .25 caliber and yes it is available Remington.wouldn't use much beyond 30 yards ie apple orchard treestand were setup is point blank like on a trail.JMO ...Harold

I am not a fan of buckshot for deer, regardless of gauge... One bad experience was enough for me... Use SLUGS!

Cheers

from 25 yards I'd rather use my crossbow then 20G anything.
I just got black bear with my 20G slug. I was wondering about
buckshot because friend of mine suggested it. Well, slugs it is then.

Hi

I see your going for bear. If it were me, I'd find a 12 guage and use slugs because I don't have nerves of steal:eek:. I'd want the most knock down to get DRT bear.:50cal:
Good luck on your hunt.
