At the moment being totally strapped for cash I have 2 options for Turkey this spring.

Choice A. CIL 402 20g 2 3/4" full choke

Choice B. Win1200 12g 28" barrel 2 3/4" Fixed Mod

Would either of these be suitable for turkey? Im heading out on sunday to Pattern the guns but I want to know if this would be at all worth my time. Thanks y'all!

If I had to use a sub-gauge for turkey I would choose the heavyest load available with rather fine shot...say 6's max. Less payload means one has to compensate with smaller shot for dense killing pattern...and a full choke would be important. Also your killing range would be severely cut down. I would assume your going to call birds and take head shots?

I would pattern first then decide, I've seen some 1200's throw full choke patterns with a "modified" marked barrel. I wouldn't feel undergunned with a 20, stick with 5's or 6's as I've found that 20's patterns start to deteriorate with anything larger than 5's.

Pattern first and see. I suspect that your range will be limited because of 2 3/4 and your chokes available.

You never know until you try it. Educated guess, you might have to pull a turkey in tighter - say 20 yards for a good shot. Determine your effective range by the pattern and if you can mark your max range where you are hunting with a stick, decoy, etc. so you know when the turkey is close enough for a clean kill.
