Okay milsurp/M14/M1Garand/Surplus store lovers:

Where can one find 20mm ammo cans? I want to mount them (just gotta paint them flat black so my wife don't get angry) on my flat black Suzuki 650 VStrom motorcycle to have that 'Adventurer/ expedition' look.

Just don't want to pay for the shipping if I can possibly drive and be in the neighborhood. Southern and Northern Ontario works for me...

Thoughts? Expert advice?

Cheers,
Barney

What are the dimensions of the cans you are looking for? I have the 25MM cans mounted on my KLR 650 and though they are narrow they work really well. If you send the dimensions I can look around and see what I can find.

Here are the dimensions from the link in the previous (to this) post: 17¾ in. long x 7½ in. wide x 14½ in. high.

Thanks for trying to find some!

And Yes, I will try Princess Auto on my return travels. Still in Whistler today. Tomorrow, Friday, I hit the open Hwy #1 to Calgary for the Sat 21 July and Sun 22 July clinics at TSE!

Cheers,

I have a large can from princess auto that housed some kind of small missles in it's previous life LOL
Ordered it from princess auto's catalog for 40.00 and picked it up at the nearest store. Not sure if you saw it Barney, it was the camoflauge box on the back of my 550 Grizzly at the clinic.
Go to princess auto website, they might have the size you need. ;)

mikeeps, thanks for showing me the 20mm ammo can. You were right about their weight.
Cancer: I'm coming home tomorrow to the Georgian Bay area and will contact you about checking out those 25mm , black , synthetic ammo cans.

Cheers,
Barney

650 V-Strom is a great bike. I have a 2007 model. Great on gas with plenty of power. Try taking it over 6000rpm on an open stretch. Save your money and buy Givi cases and proper racks. I went the ammo can route with my old KLR650. It got old fast. Look at swapping out the windshield for something higher. It cuts the wind down lots.

Thanks all of you for the great advice! Just last week my wife suggested a pair of Givi side cases (I have the Monokey racks already installed) for my coming birthday. That works for me. The ammo can issue is not gonna happen anymore. I'm gonna post some pics once I get the racks installed, I mean sidecases too.

Quinnjoblow: PM inbound to ya!

If you are interested in coming to North Bay, or happen to be in the area, let me know, I can reveal my source of local ammo cans.

They do make commercial storage panniers for those, you know. :D Friend of mine just made a trip up to Yellowknife with a set of those on his bike.
