I have acquired a new to me 20x47 Lapua. I have found a guy who reloads for it using Redding custom dies. He is about 4 hours away from me and getting everything to him to load my shells is a pain. I need to get my own dies. I have never used a bushing die in my life, so i'm going into this 100% blind.

From what I can find, my best bet instead of waiting fo a year for custom dies is to get a 6(or 6.5)x47 Lapua bushing die and buy the proper bushings. The guy tells me he uses a 230 bushing in his Redding dies (he has actual 20x47 dies) to get proper tension (when I caliper a loaded round in the neck is 0.232). So if I were to order a 6x47 FL Bushing die with a 230 and 228 bushing, that should allow me to resize fired brass, correct?

Now to the meat and potatoes of this post, what can I use as a seater die??? Im at a loss for ideas. Talked about having the smith take a 204 ruger seater and ream it to a 20x47 but I was told by the smith "not a chance" which is fine.

Do any of you guys have any other ideas? This barrel wont last long, I only need to load up another 300-400 rounds and it'll be time for a new one. And I probably wont go another 20x47, so why order the dies when I can use 6 or 6.5x47 dies and sell them after.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

A ‘47 bushing sizer with the .228/.230 should work for the resizing. However, the seater could be an issue. Wilson makes seater blanks that can be reamed so you could purchase a 20 cal seater blank if they make them … and if you can find the smith/reamer that chambered the barrel, have it “chambered”. Bottom line is that you end up with a set of “custom” dies and maybe only gain a few months over special ordering the complete die set.

Any other ideas for a seater?? Would just a standard 22-250 be able to do it? What do guys use for a 20-250? The x47 case is a tad shorter than the -250 rem.

What about the Frankfurt Arsenal multi-cal seater?

My 20-250Ackley I'm seating bullets successfully with a 22-250 competition seater.
I don't think you can seat 20Cal bullets with a 6.5x47 or a 6mmx47 seater... does REDDING make a 22x47 seater ?, which would work if it was available.

i ordered a bushing from Sinclair Oct. 03, 2021
It arrived in Toronto Oct 8 and was tied up in Toronto customs till Nov15, arrived in Beaumont Nov 20

Not to my knowledge, the x47 case dies are limited to 6 and 6.5. Maybe, just maybe I could get away with using a 22-250 comp if your using it for your 20-250 AI

I just remembered that when I was shooting a 20PPC
All my 20Cal. bullet seating was accomplished with a 6PPC seater.

I do have a set of Whidden 6x47 dies on the way, got the bushings on the way I needed. Maybe I can get away with using a 6x47 seater

Not the same situation but similar..... I shoot a .22-243. I have two sets of dies... Set 1: Redding .243 die with proper bushing and a redding .243 seater with the seating plug swapped for their .224 seater plug. I would imagine you could do something similar?
Set 2 is custom redding set specific for .22-243 but they used the .243 seater (judging by the part #) and it works fine.

I was hoping I could maybe swap the seater steam for something smaller. I will mess around with the dies when they get here and see what works best. Unfortunately finding bushings for both my 20x47 and my 22-284 is proving to be easier said than done.
