21Sharp, will it survive?

Well, checking Cdn. Tire, Cabela's, Rangeview Sports, Sylvestre Sporting Goods, BV Outdoors, Bullseye North, Ellwood Epps, Frontier Firearms, they all show either out of stock, no backorders, or discontinued, while a number of others do not even list the cartridge, although several have new rifles. BUT, if you can't get ammunition for a non-reloadable cartridge.................
Right now isn't exactly a good time to judge whether something is dead based on whether its on store shelves. LOTS of stuff hasn't returned to its pre-pandemic levels (Thanks Putin!....)

And with an election looming in the US, and the Dems having at least a decent chance of winning, there is a real good chance it gets worse before it gets better...

I'll repeat what has been said here many times before. It's DOA.

Remember the 17 Winchester Super Magnum, 5mm Remington or 17HM2?

It'll go down the same road.
The 17 hm2 is making a bit of a come-back in some areas. A fantastic 17 caliber rimfire. Kills gophers and marmots like a lightning strike!......:)

And with no ear protection, your ears are not ringing. Not saying one should regularly do this, but for the odd hunting shot, it's nice not to have an extremely loud rimfire choice.

Canadian Tire Pro Shop in Cranbrook has plenty of 17 hm2 ammunition in stock. In fact they have both CCI and Hornady 17 Mach2 options. One has to look around as well.

I just purchased a case of Winchester 17 WSM for a friend who was looking. Search and ye shall find!........:)

I think it’ll do fantastic if it brings down the price of rimfire to around 20 bucks a brick again.
If not. I think it’ll fizzle out rather quickly. Lead or not.
If there’s a lead ban. They will simply make lead free .22 cheeper and more avalible imo

Think Remington 5mm. Great little cartridge that most people have never heard of. I suppose if a person bought a nice little rifle and a lifetime supply of ammo at the same time, it might be okay, but……
Only reason I heard of that round was because the fallout video game series likely used that caliber as the basis for some of their guns.

5mm Rimfire is the one non-22cal rimfire I'd really like to own. I'd take one of those over a 21sharp for sure! (not really, because ammo is basically impossible to get, but if ammo was actually available 5mm rimfire would be a fantastic alternative to 22mag and 17HRM IMO)

Aguila used to run some off every few years, but I haven't seen any in quite some time. - dan

Winchester makes some of the worse ammo on the market, now they are making their own caliber, should be funny. I have never had any good accuracy out of ANY of their ammo...

Dead out of the gate, R&D, time and money would have been better spent on working on a lead free 22lr round, already a massive audience for that.

CCI already made one, it was called the Meateater Copper-22!......:)

Unfortunately CCI has discontinued this round.....:( Apparently very expensive to make.

In saying that, Black Sheep Sporting Goods in Coeur d' lane, Idaho has a ton of it still available. I believe it is $199.99 per brick of 500 copper rounds. $19.99 per box of 50, and yes in US dollars. So ad 40% = $27.99 CDN per 50 rounds, Ouch!....:)

What I'm getting at, is with more research and time invested they could develope a projectile for the 22lr that is more cost effective and straight to market with millions of consumers already with a firearm that can use it.
Not waste time reinventing the wheel.

I agree, the problem with the heeled bullet that is required for the 22 LR makes it very expensive to design. After talking with a CCI technician, I don't think it's possible to achieve a copper composite 22 LR round without that huge cost.

And the accuracy of these CCI Copper-22's went for crap over 50 yards.

Who knew? Maybe this is why the 21 Sharp was invented. Although I'm not sold on the accuracy from the reviews I've seen. Winchester ammo is not the best, as others have stated.....:(

They should have brought out new rifles in 5mm Remington and new ammo.
Winchester as far as I know doesn't even chamber the 21 sharp. It's savage at this time with others tooling up from what I've read

I think the entire process has been overthought. Fishing weights are cast lead free nowadays. I’m sure in the same or similar molds. I don’t see how this can’t apply to 22lr

Yeah I've seen guys asking about the Aguila runs around here over the years. Hasn't sounded like something I want to dive into lol Especially after the last few years of frustration with trying to get "common" stuff...

I've seen their bolt action that looks like the Wildcat in some reviews/releases about it.

Some of the early reviews showed less than stellar accuracy. Winchester has only one that they are going to chamber listed on their US website. Savage also is talking about their B and the II series rimfires.

Ron's video does show that there is potential for better accuracy.

Rifles not being available at this point in time, one ammo manufacturer tells me that it could very well still be in development; taking an opportunity to fine tune and refine the round.

I'm not going to hop on the bandwagon right away, but am certainly watching for future developments.

If there is more than 1 good review, and CZ starts making barrels for it, it could be time to give it a go.
