Accurate barrel life should be about 1-2 boxes of ammo The question that needs to be asked is, "How Fast can you push a .224" dia bullet without it blowing apart in flight?"
I have a 22/250AI that I built and pushing the 90g Bergers 3050fps, works well. A friend has a 22 Midlestead but only shoots the light bullets for yots, very accurate.
22 BR with 1:7 should work. It also depends on what you call long range. With a 30-06 case the challenge would be finding a capable load before barrel is toast.

Depends how fast you spin it and which bullet. My 1-8 22/243 Middlested will blow up 90 grain SMKs but 80 grain Bergers are happy in the same pipe. My 1-14 fireforming barrel drove 52 grain Berger match fast enough to convert a coyote into a pile of hair and coyote parts.
Think about accurate barrel life: my 243 Win throat eroded by 0.130" after 1800 rounds fired and it will not produce cloverleaf groups anymore.
A 22-308 might have a accurate barrel life of 1200-1400 rounds and a 22-06 of around 1000-1200 rounds.
I have a 22-243 Middlestead, a couple of 22-250's and a 22-250 AI, and just picked up a 1- 224 Clarke.. Have had 22 CHeeetahs in the past. They are a fairly specialised tool, not really the choice for cleaning out a well populated gopher field. Great for long shots on coyotes though. As to how long they will last; what will you be using it for? How many repeat shots? In what temperatures?. Every case is different. - dan
