After informing you of this, did the same fellow offer to buy (at a very low price) your 22/250 :roll:Gibbo said:Recently I was informed that a 22-250 barrel is done after 500-1000 rounds

Also, don't forget the newer 223 WSSM - I've heard a lot of good from some locals with their A-Bolt Stainless Stalkers
Hotter than the 22-250 and a very flat shooter. Might be something to look at.

I've heard nasty things about throat erosion in the .223 WSSM. Such as bad wear after just 200 rounds !
Recently I was informed that a 22-250 barrel is done after 500-1000 rounds, can anybody confirm this or is it hogwash.
That is about the only way I could see burning out a barrel in that few rounds, the 22-250 is slightly overbored, but not nearly as badly as the 220 swift, after a couple of thousand rounds I could see some throat erosion happening, unless you run REALLY hot loads and keep the barrel glowing red.You could burn a barrel out that fast but you would have to be really hard on it, letting the barrel get real hot and keep on shooting, will prematurely kill any barrel. But normal use not that is way too fast.
BSA aosl chrome lined their barrels.
In the case of the WSSM's, I think thhat the original rifle barrels really hurt their sales, I know of a few fellas that got them and sent them back for rebarreling.
I am not too sure of just how long they will last, and have not seen any new reports of late on shortmags.org, but I would not be comfortable with a chrome line barrel .
It would mean a very large expense when I did wash out the throat!!

Here is an exerpt....
The 223 and 243 WSSM cartridges are said to “burn up” barrels in as little as 300 rounds. Nothing could be further from the truth. Test results show that even in non-chromed barrels, the wear performance of WSSM calibers is equal to the beloved 22-250. In chromed barrels, the wear resistance is doubled (see chart). It should also be noted that Winchester has never sold a rifle in 223 or 243 WSSM without a chromed barrel. As an added benefit, the smooth surface of chromed barrels makes cleaning them significantly easier. :!:
