Hey

I'm looking to make a load that can buck some wind and hold some good down range energy.

I'm looking at the Nosler 55gr BT and the Hornaday 55gr V-max moly the nosler has a slightly better BC. Any one use these bullets before? any advice?

now the second part of the question whats the fastest I can push these bullets I would love to go 3800+fps.

The gun is a Savage model 10 Predator 1-12 twist

The 55 BT is a great bullet.

3800+fps is not a reasonable objective as you are actually beyond most 220 Swift loads. While you may get close with some powders brass life will be short and barrel erosion will be accelerated.

Hornaday makes a 52gr A-max and list a load for 3808fps with 37grs of IMR 4895.......

Brass life isnt a huge deal to me if I can get 2 firings that would be great.

Barrel erosion would be more of a concern would the moly coating help with that? also would the erosion be worse with a 55gr bullet at 3800fps or a factory winchester load at 4050fps with a 45gr bullet??...

"...get 2 firings..." If you only get 2, something is wrong. You won't get 3800fps with a 55 grain bullet. 3700ish with max loads is possibly though. Maximum loads won't necessarily be the most accurate though.
In any case, your rifle will likely prefer lighter bullets with that twist.

ok another question what will the difference in down range energy be like on say a

45gr Nosler BT fired at 4050fps vs a 55gr BT fired at 3700fps at a distance of say 250yds

and will the 55gr hold its line in the wind that much better then a 45gr?

I'm not worried about using 55gr rounds I shot a box of factory Federal 55gr SP the other day and had 5/8'' 3 shot groups at 100yds and 1 1/4'' groups at 250yds so the 55gr work just fine with the 1-12 twist.

This site may help you... just punch your own numbers in:

The 55 gr Soft-point is a fair bit shorter that the 55 grain Ballistic Tip. It is the length of the bullet that matters not necessarily the weight. A rifle that stabilized a 55 or 60 grain flat-based soft-point may not do well with the longer Ballistic Tip. With that said I have no problems at all using the 55 BT in a 1 in 12 barrel.
