Hi Guys,
Can anyone give me an idea of what it would cost to have a 22-250 TC Pro Hunter barrel taken out to AI spec ie 40% Improved. I've been reading a lot of good stuff about the benefits of such a conversion & may even consider having my Custom Remington 700 SA, 22-250 done if it's all it's cracked up to be! I'm thinking it's got to be less involved doing the barrel rather than re-chambering an action right ? I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong here as this is all new to me so any advice would be really appreciated.
Northern Ont area.
Thanks!

AI chambers are supposed to be chambered using a go gauge that is 4 thousands tighter than a standard chamber. So your factory chamber is already too long. Normally a barrel is set back slightly so it can be chambered tight. A factory round is supposed to close tight on the bolt with resistance.

It could be chambered to an AI chamber with excessive headspace and you would have to form cases with the correct case head clearance so when you chamber a round to fire form it, you can feel it locks up tight with resistance. Then it would just be a matter of not over sizing the fired formed case and not pushing the shoulder back.

Hi guntech,
Thanks for the info there. Do you have any idea of the sort of cost involved with this conversion ? As I mentioned, I wanted to trial this on my TC Pro Hunter barrel initially to see the results, so I will need to find a decent gunsmith to do the job for me.
My Custom Remington uses a Stiller TAC 30 Action that's just been fully cerakoted so it will take some serious thought before getting that one done. Unless of course, the Re-chambering process can be done without barrel removal, doubtful aye?
