22-250 and 55 grain V-Max

Ouch! I did not see the rate of twist thing coming. The long gone Savage 112 V likely had 1-14", and notes say most loads were with 50 grain Sierra Blitz and likely Sierra (?) 52 grain HPBT. The two rifles of concern are both Ruger 77, so likely 1-14" twist. Damn!!

1-14s will shoot up to and including the 55s no problem, excluding the 53 V-Max. Sorry about that, I was thinking 40s and 50s.

Good information about the bullet lengths - hard to get at least one of each in various calibers to know that. I have been using these 55 grain V-Max in a PC-10 with 1-9" twist - no issues - so had not even considered that larger .22 centerfires were made with slower twist... Using cheap digital calliper from NAPA store, I measured 5 of the 55 grain V-Max - .819", .818", .815", .811" and .816". Re-zero'd calliper each time, measured each twice.

Ha! In the end that is really the deal, right? Round holes showing up near what we aimed at - either it does or it doesn't... A ways yet before trying them - still trimming brass - 100 done, 88 to go... Then prime, powder metering, seat bullets, pressure series (ladder) in both rifles - will see what we have then...
