I have washed up several barrels in my shooting over the years. These include 220 Swifts, (3) 6mm's,(3) 6.5x55's,(2) 264 Win Mag (1) 300 Win Mag (1) All took a lot of shooting before showing noticeable deterioration in accuracy. Even the notorious Swifts were surprisingly slow in losing excellent accuracy. My first HB Ruger 77V took 2500 rounds to get to the point that it would no longer make ¾ MOA. The 6mm's all went over 2000, and the 6,5x55 barrels were all on my 700 Classic. [about 3000 rounds each] The 264 Win mag would no longer stay in moa after 1350 or so. [all quite warm loads] The 300 Win Mag took 2400 and then went right to pieces quickly, from just under moa to 3 moa in about 50 rounds. Borescope showed damage extended 6" up from the chamber. Keeping it cool is important. Hot barrels have short lives, if one continues to shoot them after they are hot. Proper cleaning regimen helps extend the life as well. Don't expect 4000 rounds out of a 22-250 barrel, though.
Barrels, even really good ones are inexpensive enough that actual barrel life is a non-issue with me anyway. Regards, Eagleye.
