.22-250 Barrel life?

Over the years I have bough a few "shot-out" rifles which only required a couple of hours of elbow grease and some copper cleaner to get shooting again.

A serious assessment of needs (OK, wants) is in order. Figure out if that extra hundred yards is going to be worth the extra costs, really. You shoot past 400 yards often?

I have seen vids of guys shooting .223's and .17 calibers, out to 1000 yards, so they can and do kill at that range. Some of the 17 cal vids have been posted on Saubier's forum, while Mysticplayer here has posted his long range shooting past (out to?) a mile, here

For me, it was an easy choice. I stumbled upon a .223 at a price I couldn't pass up, and I was looking at .223, anyway. Cheap brass. Good balance between cost and performance.

Comparing the powder charges in a 22-250 to a 223, you burn almost twice the powder, to get that extra range. Makes reloading a bit less expensive. Worth considering. Esp. if you are pondering whether you will wear out the barrel before you have even bought the rifle.:D
