22-250 or 243 for coyotes

For those who have shot or seen a lot of coyotes get shot.........is one more likely to produce instant death than the other?My own experience would suggest that there is more twitching and kicking with the 22- 250.
What have you noticed?

both will kill them dead as dead can be . 243 comes with heavery bullets if you want to shot them . and the 243 will be a littel louder the 22 250 . i like the 22 250 myself but if i had to pick one gun it would be the 243 becoues i can uis it for deer as well with the biger bullets DUTCH
 
I have seen allot of coyotes shot with anything from 223 to 243. Some are one shot and flop dead, some have been chased along way. It ALL depends were you hit them, and when there running across a field full out at times it's very tough to get good shot placement (or hit them at all). Sitting and calling is a different story, you may have more of a chance to pick your shot??

Out of your two choices I would go 22-250 hands down.

I have never used a 22-250, so I have no experience with it but the 243 is a different matter. I have rolled a few coyotes with it and seen others dropped with it as well. 75gr V-max bullets do a very nice job of putting them down. As mentioned above, the bullet and shot placement are important factors. Probably more important than caliber.
We have also dropped a lot of coyotes with the 270 and 130gr SP bullets. Some dropped immediately, some spun and dropped, and some ran for a hundred yards before dropping. We also had the odd bang, flop and then seconds later the coypte got up and ran off. :(

I agree. I'd pick a 22-250 as a dedicated yote rifle and use a Ballistic Tip/Hollow Point bullet. If I wanted to hunt deer with the rifle as well then I'd pick the 243. Both rifles work well for yotes.
 
IMHO the difference between the 2 on a bush mutt they are equal.
The 243 does give a heavier bullet for windy conditions and more retained energy at longer distance.
Ive shot 2 very big mutts with a .17 rim fire. Both spun around and sat down when hit in the ribs. And then 1 shot in the ear. One was over 50 lbs. and was a solid 100 Yard's. So how much does it take. I like my 22-250. I only used the .17 as it was out of the safe when needed in a hurry.

I have noticed bang flop with the 243 Win.
I have noticed a lot of dancing in circles, biting at the exit wound with the 22 centerfires.:D
 
I shot the 243 lots of years for yotes before moving over to the 22-250. I have found that there is no real difference in bang-flop on yotes. I did find that the 243 gave me a little more distance to reach out. Usually about 50-75 more yards.

I have settled on using the 22-250 with the biggest hollow point bullet I can find which happens to be a 55g Sierra bullet. To get this in a 243 you have to use a 60grain bullet to get the biggest hollow point. I found that this caused in average the least amount of pelt damage. Varmint type bullets are meant to destruct violently so there is no best varmint bullet in my mind. I do prefer these large hollow points because I believe they do open up faster dumping the most energy in and usually don't exit but if you hit bone with any bullet, you will get splash and create an unwanted hole in the hide.

Either one will do the job and asking which is better is like asking is 9mm better than 45ACP in the pistol forum. Endless answers. I have had DRT with 17 cals all the way up to 33 cals.
