Hello,

I have been playing around with some 22-250 loads. The most acurate bullet so far has been the 53gr Sierra HP Match. I have had good luck with 50gr V-max and 50gr BK as well. I am using H380. I am using CCI 200 primers.

Some of the books say that when using H380, they have had better success with magnum primers. Has anybody tried using magnum primers with H380 in their 250's? If so, what were the results like? Did the powder chargers differ? In the few manuals I have, the starting and max loads are basically identical but one book will have mag primers, and the other will not. So whats the deal in regards to this?

Thanks, and post any other tips you have in regards to loading the 22-250.

Steve

Magnum primers are for lighting hard to ignite powders and cold weather shooting. Manuals reflect the conditions on the day of the test only. Some of 'em, like the Lee book, for example, aren't their data at all. Lee's is Hodgdon data.
Anyway, if the manual say to use a magnum primer, try it. It has nothing to do with the charge. It's about accuracy.

I tried both 52 and 53 grain Sierra match bullets but mine performs best with 60 grain Sierra HP using 33 - 34 grains of IMR 4064, 4895 or 4320.
Using BR primers.

55 gr V-Max and H-380 or IMR 4895 is what works the best in my Savage VLP...the H-380 usually does a little better than the IMR. with Federal 210 M primers.

Is the 210 M a regular large rifle primer? How many grains of 380 are you using? I had poor results with the 55's at 39.5 grains. have to lower the charge a bit and try again. From my experience with the gun I am shooting, 38.5 to 39 grains of H380 is the max my gun likes.

40gr v-max and 55gr Sierra Blitz Kings with Varget and Winchester Mag primers shoot excellet groups and are very concistant in both my 250's.. groups were 3/4 to 1.5 " at 100 with regulare primers.. went to mag primers and groups improved significantly. Killed alot of yotes to!!!!
