.22-250 Remington

Great info, thanks!

Just curious. How long is your barrel? Do you think you could get more velocity from a longer barrel? I have shot some factory 30.06 rounds where I get muzzle flash on the odd cartridge of the same box. Would you say muzzle flash is an indicator of wasted combustion?

Mine is 22". Yes longer pipe will net more speed. From all I have read the 30-06 will still gain velocity with a 30" barrel.

Quick question for you, my manual says that the 50 gr TNT may come apart in flight in some 22-250 loads and that if that is the case, then the 55 grain TNT is suitable for higher velocities. Have you experienced this? If so, do you find this to be true in any of your loads?

I didn't take them to high in the velocity range but yes they will. The 55gr tnt was designed just for the 22-250, The nosher 55gr shoot very good for me so instead of burning out the barrel with all different bullets Im just shooting the varmageddon.

Are you guys using mag primers with H380? Just curious as some manuals recommend mag primers with the exact same amount of powder as manuals that do not list mag primers in their loads. My Sako AII likes H380 and 53gr Sierra HP BT Match bullets best so far.

Alliant powders are near impossible to find but I found RL-15 and 50 gr Blitzkings to shoot sub-1/4-MOA at 200yds. This is in a 1:14 twist, 24" Rem 700 - I know it's super accurate as I nailed a woodchuck using hash marks last summer - my longest shot ever at 450 yds (ranged with a Zeiss Victory).

IMR 4064 was my best powder when shooting 55gr vmax in sporter barrels. I really liked varget for the 52 gr BTHPmatch out of varmint weight barrels. Excellent tough coyote bullet the 52 grainer. Start below max from a decent manual and you will likely find accuracy improves the hotter you go.

For a 1 in 14 twist you might be best to use 50gr V-Max but if you insist on 55gr bullets you may need to stay with a shorter SP such as a Gameking.

40gr V-max you can load up pretty hot with Varget, they go fast and get more accurate with speed. I wasn't fond of the recoil, it was rather unusual, really jerky.
