22-250 same as .225

Almost certainly going to have to reload for that cartridge... Winchester stopped producing rifles in the caliber in 1971, and not that many were actually produced to start with due to competition from the .22-250 drowning it out. I'm not even sure if Winchester's still making the round, they were doing rare, small runs of it a few years ago from time to time, but hardly any makes it to Canada. Brass is however available, and if you reload, you have a good cartridge there, but it's not at all practical trying to use factory ammo for it.
 
I can readily get 225 ammo from a number of different sources, wholesale sports, barton's, P&D. Just shop around, expensive though, around 30-40 bucks a box. Reload is the way to go.
 
The beauty of the .225 is/was that it was a rimmed case and could be chambered in single shots, like the Highwall.
 
thanks guys. have a guy in my hunt camp who has a mossberg in .225. it's the only one i've ever seen. he has 2 boxes of ammo , winchester super X, original boxes. he wants more but we'll have to reload, which means finding brass.
 
I think it is a semi rimmed and headspaces off of the shoulder. I've read a bit about it and it seems nearly a 22.250 (balistically). I think you'll want to reload for it though.

I have a pre 65 model 70 in 225 an its a killer on foxes, easy to reload. Very good shooter. Geordi

I have one, a Cooey model 71.
It is a good cartridge and I would not trade it for any other 22 caliber.
Very easy to reload and factory ammo still available.
