22-250 to 308 or 260 rem

Hi Guys,

Probably been asked before but would like to ask again. I will be getting a Remington 700 SPS (Stainless) in 22-250 ..... new gun private sale.

Can I get it re-barreled to .308 ?

What is involved with the work?

Is it an easy barrel change?

I will be getting a smith to do it for me but just want to know how the work is going to be done.

Just change the barrel. Very straightforward, as such things go.

Find a SS barrel in the contour you want. Smithy who has the action wrench and other tools changes the barrel and adjusts for headspace. Done. No bolt face work as the two cartridges have the same case head diameter.

Was checking some info and looks the the 22-250 has the same bolt face as the 260 rem as well.

I'm also considering this calibre for my build.

So a 22-250 action will just need a new 260 rem barrel and it's good to go?

Smithy will take care of proper headspace.

You can rebarrel it to any short action 308 bolt face round you want just need a barrel in the cal you want and a smith to chamber and install it, of course you can true the action and do a ton of other stuff but a simple rebarrel will get you shooting again
