22/250 Twist - Need Advise

Think I'm going to buy a 22/250. In checking out the various manufacturers i.e. Remington, Ruger they have a 1:14 twist. I see that Savage has a 1:12 twist in their barrels. Which one is better? Does the 14 twist give you a wider range of bullets you can shoot, or does the 12 twist give you a wider range.

Anybody got some experience with either or both and can comment.

I want to set up the rifle for long range 200 - 400 yards.

The longer the twist the lighter the bullet. I think the savage LRPV has a one in eight inch twist iirc, which would stabilize the heavier bullets for longer range real nice.

Longer (and usually heavier) bullets require a faster twist, so the 1 in 12 will permit a somewhat better range of choices. Most factory 22-250's are built in the 1 in 14 twist, but if you can find a 1 in 12 that meets all your other requirements, go with it. That said, you can still reach your 400 yard goal with either of these twist choices.

You can get the Savage LRPV in a 1 in 9 twist, which will really reach way out there. The LRPV is a known performer, but its awful heavy. For bench rest or PD shooting, it would be great. One potential drawback: I understand that a fast twist 22-250 has a somewhat reduced barrel life.
