22-250AI fire-forming Powders

Hey all, curious what everybody has used out there for powders for fire-forming 22-250AI.

I used a faster powder (H335) and 77gr Matchburners to form my 223AI, curious if anybody is using the same philosophy on 22-250AI? Faster powder for increase in pressure to push the shoulder out?

Or if you’re just using a safe load for a standard 22-250 to fire-form?

Fire form with bullets or are you intending to do a “Cream of Wheat” (COW) fire forming?

If with bullets, use a published start load with an economical powder(something you have on hand) and do a light jam to the lands.

If doing the COW method use a powder like Red Dot, 700x, start around 8-10 grains….. you may have to neck expand then re size creating a false shoulder mind you, it depends on how the chamber is set up for headspace.
 
A properly set up 22-250 is a good candidate for shooting factory ammo in until you have enough brass. Chances are it’ll be accurate enough to be good for something like thinning gophers.

I just use regular 22-250 data and Win 760, which has given me my best groups in both the 22-250 and the AI version. - dan

I’ve got 300pc of lapua brass that will be fireformed into AI for this custom 22-250AI when the barrel shows up 👍

Just going to form with bullets, I’ve got a range out behind the shop, good to get some extra practice on steel off the barricades when I’m fire-forming.

I’ll be shooting heavier bullets 75-85.5 out of this rifle, so then I’ll likely just use the 77 Matchburners again and some of the mountain of IMR4831 I’ve got on hand.
