last range trip ended up with a whole whack of Fail to feeds using Federal Bulk.
Usually Fed bulk fed fine in this gun.
May be gunked up with some crud as i was shooting that crappy American Eagle ammo prior to it havent torn it down yet to see if its dirty
Anyone else experience Fail to Feed issues on their 2245?
 
Sounds like the bolt is gumming up and slowing down. Did you try a few drops of oil?

BTW- I prefer AE to federal in most of my 22's.
 
Give it a good clean and polish the feed ramp with a Dremel, this will make it less ammo fussy and it will work better when dirty.
 
Sometimes powder residue will build up on the face of the chamber where the bolt rests when closed. It build up pretty uniform...scratch around with a tooth pick and it will flake off if there. When mine has FTF that is usually the issue.
 
Even more than on the face of the chamber is the little angled slot where the nose of the extractor fits. Clean it out with a dental pick.

And when was the last time you broke the gun down and cleaned the bolt and receiver?

Adding oil will make things work for a while but it also increases the amount of gumming up when that oil mixes with the fouling and unburnt powder. Pretty soon things are ugly in there and slow moving. And when the bolt can't slide easily it reduces the extraction speed and power for the ejector to spit the empties away cleanly.
 
I usually shoot about 500 rounds each range trip and by that point its filthy. When I get home I always break it down and clean it with 99% alcohol and frog lube for the caked on carbon build up around the mouth of the chamber and that little crevice that the extractor goes in, oil it up and shes good as new. Since 22lr is so dirty I highly recommend cleaning the action after every range trip. I run a few patches down the bore every blue moon too.
 
I have the same pistol and have been using the same ammo with no issues..I do use a very light grease around the bolt area and keep the feed ramp polished..

I agree. My thought about adding oil was more of a diagnostic rather than repair.
