22" 7X57 velocity?

Looks about right to me, Chuck...enjoy! BTW, My Remington 700 "Classic" in 7x57 shoots that 140 AB just like that using 53 grains of Norma MRP, for just shy of 3000 fps. [22" tube as well] Regards, Eagleye.
I succumbed to the temptation and bought a model 98 mauser 7x57 from tradex, mostly because I wanted to try the long barrel, I have no problem shooting moly coated 175 grain bullets at over 2600 fps, and in the long barrel 140's go 3000. So far I have resisted bubba'izing the mauser, even though it is not number matched, but I would like to have a scope on it for long range shooting. I can hold 2" with the iron sights, I am sure it will shoot better.
Perhaps that max loads in most manuals are published considering that many early rifles chambered for 7X57 were not designed to handle the pressures that 98 Mauser and later modern rifles were.

While I would think that the manuals are conservative and may be getting more so I think that the Hodgdon data which matches exactly the Lee data is meant for modern actions. An example of this is a 120 grain bullet in the 6.5X55. Hodgdon/Lee min and max for H4350 are 41.5 and 46 grains. The Speer book lists the max load for this combo at 42 grains for military actions. A safety margin after the fact.
The load the OP posted is a long way over Hodgdon's max. Why is the Speer manual the only one that has a "safer" section for military rifles. (I don't have the manual myself so I can't confirm if they have a section for 7X57 military rifles.) Or are they just building in a futher safety margin? Sorry if I have strayed off topic a bit.

The latest Nosler manual lists 47.0 grains max of H4350 with the 120 grain bullet in this caliber. Pre-amble states, "These loads are intended for use only with new firearms in good condition".
So ya, the Hodgdon & Lee loads are up there.
