Same basic question as the other ammo thread, but this time it's for .22 ammo, AND different criteria.

Looking for specific recommendations of make and type, including exact description (i.e. not just a reply like "Winchester") for .22 ammo which meets the following criteria, each being of approximately EQUAL importance:
  • minimum failure to feed and failure to fire
  • reasonably good accuracy
  • moderate/reasonable cost
  • minimal barrel fouling/not dirty
  • reasonably easily available
Ammo is to be used in several .22's for target but not competitive shooting and plinking using Browning Challenger (very early production), Browning Medalist, Browning Buck, and T/Contender (14" barrel :D).

Thanks!

Every .22 is different so I'd start with the cheapest and most available ammo in your area and see how it performs.
Federal bulk is good for me.
CCI mini-mags are also nice for a bit more money.

Every gun is different.
If you are only going for REASONABLE COST. You have not much choice.

I personally like CCI Standard Velocity.
Good accuracy for a good price, and cycles my semi's perfect.
I never clean my 22, you figure. (am talking about 10k rounds and up)
My groups within the 50m is 1/2" +-

Basically, go try everything you can buy regularly without having to wait for it. and it works.
I seriously think this is too open of a question.

Yeah I guess it really does depend on the gun you are shooting...but here is what I found in shooting both a Ruger SR-22 rifle, and a Ruger MKIII:

In both cases I have 2-3x times the number of misfires and failure-to-feed when using Lead Round Nose ammo (Blazer) vs. copper hollow point (Federal). I found that copper plated is a lot cleaner to handle...and I get far fewer jams with the above guns.

My 2 cents

in my gun, Win Dynapoint works well, as deas Fed Champ.
i had problems with CCI Blazer and Win HVXpert
in another gun, i had problems with Rem Thunderbolt (or something like that, the green box)

Crappy Tire is good for availability MOST of the time, and prices are in the 23-29 range

For cheap-er bulk .22LR ammo, I like Federal Value Packs 525 rds... They feed, they go bang, and are as accurate as others.

I use Blazer 22LR ,40 grains/2.59 grams. I fired over 1500 rounds without ONE misfire !! I still have over 2000 more rounds and buying more of them . I find they fire "well" without too much smoke and does not make my S&W 22A/handgun, too dirty. They seem to have the same impact every time at 25 yrds and 50 yrds . My 2cents !!

I seem to have had the best luck with the Federal-Champion bulk packs as well as the Winchester 333. I will not use Remington anymore, too dirty, too many FTF, FTE and I don't like the colour green!:)

Several of my rifles like Dynapoint GT's, while my 22/45 loves Federal 525 bulk ammo. As mentioned, every gun is different and you simply have to try it to see.
