Well, going through my cabinets today, I found that over the past several years, I've squirreled away a small pile of .22 LR ammo.

58 bricks of it to be approximate. (To be exact would require additional counting, since I probably have 4-5 bricks worth in an ammo can I use for my Razorback belts.)

If I was going to guess, I'd say I have just a bit over 30,000 rounds of .22 LR stocked away.

How, and why did that happen?

Well. At one time, not that long ago, I was shooting over 5,000 rounds per season in training and practice.

I appear to have kept buying as though I was shooting that much, despite seeing my shooting consumption slow down due to work and family.

Then the 'great .22 LR shortages' happened, and I ended up buying more than I probably really needed to....but the prices were good when I bought it. A case (5000) rounds of T22 target for $180? How could I turn that down when I can't even find T22 nowadays?

And for reference sake....if you owned one of the (few....30-ish?) Razorback .22 LR AR-15 Uppers that exist in Canada, you'd want to have stocked up on .22 LR as well. Sitting down with 3 belts adding up to almost a complete brick of .22 LR, and banging it all away in a handful of seconds...well....lots of fun, like 200 rounds of fun....but if you don't have a good stock of .22 LR onhand, you don't want to get doing it.

In terms of today's prices, the 200 round belt is worth almost $20.

Oh, and no, I'm not looking to sell any of it, I WILL use it. Eventually. But I think I'll slow my rate of purchase down a bit now that I've recognized the 'issue' (note, this is *NOT* a problem....)

:)

Thats great timing on your part, now that the prices are much higher you can try to wait it out a bit before you need to replenish your supply.

Buying to much ammo is never a bad thing, it seems to only go up in price. I have many many brick of stingers, segmented, velocitors and yellow jackets with a price tag of $29.99 on them. I also have bricks of cheaper ammo at around $15.00 a brick.

Best part is, if you have a large surplus of 22 and are short on money like many are these days you can sell or trade them to get what you are lacking in other calibers.

I have one of there uppers as well but have a hard time getting it to run reliably, any tips?

I have somewhere around 46-48 bricks as well. I would like to have squirreled away 100 and had I known just a few years ago we would be where we are now, when you could walk into Wally World and buy the Federal 525 bricks for $13.99 I'd have stocked up back then!!

speaking of which, I'd consider trading some of my 22 surplus for 12g or 7.62x54r if any of you are local Edmonton area. Also need more ammo cans. majority of mine is federal. only downside is I store mine loosely in ammo cans meaning I have to count out what I have, not sure of total amounts.

Hammer...is it hooked or rounded? (See the difference between these two) the rounded is preffered, less drag on the bolt.

I never could get mine to work well. I had a M16 hammer, reduced hammer spring, Slimmed the buffer. Had the extractor tuned. Ran CCI blazer as recommended. Sprayed the belts with WD40 as the designer told me to try. Still nothing could only get 4-5 rds off and then jam.

i remember being in a gun store buying 4 bricks at $20 each and the clerk asking me if i wanted a case (10%) off on Bulk Pack Federal. Why didn't i buy 3 cases.

I dont see any problems about having a lot of 22LR ammo and not being raped with current price... People who see it as a problems are just jealous that they didn't do it in the first place and are now stuck paying 47$ for a brick of Thunder Turds

I'm still sitting on a pile of 22LR from back around 2007 when Cabella's bought SIR in Winnipeg they had a grand opening shindig. They had pallets of 22LR for $10 a brick(no ammo shortage back then). I knew it was good deal and bought 15,000 rounds. I can remember the cashier looking at me like I was nuts, maybe I was as I didn't even have a 22 firearm at the time.

You can never have to much ammo as prices are always going up....as long as you have the storage space , you are good to go...

Walmart had the winchester Dyna points on for 26$ a brick a couple of months ago. I picked up two. Wish I picked up more. They had like 20 bricks sitting there. Went back a week later, all gone.
