So much for being a nice guy about it. No CCI SV or LR HP to be found anywhere.

Most of my "hoard" as you call it, was bought long before " rumblings about a shortage coming." A good portion of my bulk packs were bought at $16.99, five/six years ago. Am I bragging? 3 primer shortages ago, I got caught with my pants down. Never again. I've weathered and will continue to weather shortages since then because I am prepared. You can view that as bragging if you like, a smart man might view it as a helpful tip.

I can tell you 2 more things about these "shortages" if you care to listen. One, they don't last forever and the price never quite makes it back down to where it started. Two, they will last and the price will stay up until people quit buying at $40.00+ a brick.

regarding:
1) yea that makes sense. but thats also general inflation. i would never expect something to go back to the price it was at 5 years earlier when in that time we would have had 7-8% inflation at least.
2) the issue is that for anyone who likes shooting $40 for 500 rounds is still the cheapest thing you can do. so we either would need to stop shooting altogether (sacrificing our hobby), or move on to other calibers. at this point for rifles even the cheapest 5.56 rounds at still at least three times that price to shoot and 7.62 is even more. 9mm is about the same price too.

despite how much of a price increase there has been in the past few years, it is still nothing compared to the cost of center fire ammo. that's why i chose to shoot rimfire and i cant see that changing any time soon.

Perhaps you'd like to sell some of your stock on the EE at the original price?

... I think people should pay whatever they feel comfortable with. $40 or $100, if they are happy with their purchase, or happy not making the purchase, good for them. Personally I think people that do not have sufficient ammo for their purposes, whether that is 50 rounds or 50,000 should buy now at whatever price they can get it at. I'll pay $45 for a box of 500 CCI RN mini-mags. I do it regularly and my pile gets bigger and bigger. This makes me happy. I am not optimistic about the future of the world economy. When gold goes to $5000 an ounce and ammo $150 per box, I'd rather have currency for more important things.
 
One thread closed. A similar one brought back to life. Although I think this one is more abrasive than the last.

I'm at just over 5750 with 3/4 being cci -sv- green tag-stingers-mini mags. Have 1000 fed auto match (I like these! need more) 400 fed target and usually buy 2 boxes of others to try that makes up the rest.

I don't use win or rem and pass them up, caught a wal mart guy putting out win333's for 15.95 the other day, was kinda tempting until I read some reviews later, and bad luck with rem stuff.

27,500 ish. Over 1/2 CCI and rest federal and 1k win m22 - sold some mini mags and stingers at cost after got some velocitors. Done buying for couple years till it blows over.

Time to choot some boolits :)
 
Funny how some people get flamed for such comments and others dont. Whos being hypocritical now?
Im with you guys. Buy it and stack it. If people are willing to pay $50+ a brick, thats their choice. Atleast a few of us are thinking about the future and not just this summer.
 
i slowed down at 50,000 rounds,,LOL...but not stopped,,i still find the odd brick here and there for $20.00 or $30.00,,,of course at those prices i buy all that's there,,LOL,,,of course i occasionaly sell some to my friends who shoot with their kids,,
 
I'm on a "buy it when I see it" kick lately too, though, in the stuff I really like to shoot...it's rare to see it in brick quantity. (CCI SV/Sub-Sonic LR HP) Still, I've probably picked-up about 1,400 rounds of CCI in the last 6 weeks or so. It's been one of the busiest spring/summers I can remember so far with family stuff...so for the first time...I have more ammo than time to use it, but things should get back to normal soon.
 
i saw a brick of cci at lebarons on the weekend for 35 dollars so i grabed it up. i got home and realized it was cci quiet. only 740 fps. was kind of kicking myself for not paying attention.
 
Well, I have a few thousand of the Winchester crap bought last couple years, and it will take a lifetime to shoot it because as one guy said , it patterns like bird shot in all my rifles, got a couple federal bulk pack and that stuff is ok and some cci mini mags ,but the good ammo was all gone like cci sv etc. the sk standard plus is nice and not much more than cci sv. Shoots really well, so will be investing in more of that and other target .22! I don't blast a lot of .22 and don't consider what I have as hoarding. However unless these so called hoarders have like50,000 rounds each or more, I cannot see it impacting the shortage and once they have their 20,000 or so rounds, which has likely happened by now, then they will only be replacing what they shot, same as everyone else! I think the ammo and powder companies are catching up with the scare a couple years ago and we are seeing more offerings from Europe which will help keep the American ammo honest in their pricing. Buy the bricks of European quality ammo while you are waiting for the U.S. Catches up! That Winchester and Remington junk is great if you have a semi auto and want to plink.

exacery! I've just bought shy of 20K rounds in the last two weeks. 10K of CCI Velocitor, 2.5K of CCI Stinger, 3K of CCI Tactical and 4K of American Eagle. I am tempted to buy 10 bucket o bullets, too...

Good enough for a single, lever, pump or bolt action.

Good excuse to buy a new gun.
