22 ARC, the 22-250 killer

Do it. And post pics. I love pics of dead animals.

This year is 6.5 Grendel with 115gr Tac-Tx and 100gr TTSX

Not a big "picture of kills" guy but I'll get a couple to show they work.

If I ever pick up a 224 cal twisted fast enough, will def try the 77gr LRX

Looks good. Is the Grendel enough speed for a 100 TTSX?

Looks pretty good from dudes shooting hogs on Youtube and some anecdotes from forums on deer. There's a guy with a channel called Carpe Sus who does some detailed analysis of kills. Hoping with a 22" barrel (may go 20" as well) I can get at leat 2800 fps, but would settle for a bit less.

Barnes data tops out at 2900 fps with CFE 223 from a 24" barrel but I figure that's like a truck ad showing you how much gas mileage THEY get lol.

My hunt bud has taken lots of deer with the disconnected gmx, don't remember the grains but the CX should be as good. I'm sure the new ELD X bc will be in the mid .400's. For under 400 yd hunting 1 in 12 will keep it stable enough I'm sure.

So what bullet would be a good choice for deer? 223 bore, and make it large for bore/high bc. It all seems varmit or match.

The 88 ELDm from a 1:7 twist has been an absolute monster for me from a 223AI, which is real similar velocity wise to the ARC from those posted numbers.
I’m a dedicated shoulder shooter and have zero qualms about busting shoulders from any angle with that bullet. I’m only a handful of heartbeats deep with the 88 so far but from what I’ve seen I’m getting a 30-36” of penetration with a permanent wound channel of 3-4” in diameter.

Sounds like you could use a stunt shooter support group... ;)

Right, so might as well limit everyone and make sure they can't...when there is literally nothing to lose and everything to gain by speeding that twist up.

Heard heavier bullets work great at closer than 1000 yards too. Who woulda thought.

Nah lets defend using subpar barrels like its a benefit lol. Bizarre.

Yes Joel, it's all a plot to hinder your desires. SMH. The rifles are built the way they are because that is what the majority use them for. Should you desire something different, build it yourself and fill your boots. - dan

Such melodrama lol. Yes, Dan. That's completely what I was saying ;) Is that like when you decide I say anti gun stuff and then never quote examples? lol

Totally wrong.

Exhibit A: More and more makers moving away from stupid, limiting twists. Riddle me that one if most people don't want em/care. There are a few frustrating holdouts but most of the industry has clearly gotten with the times.

Jeez, you'd think saying the industry shouldn't put suboptimal rates of twists on barrels wouldn't get such pushback lol. Interesting reactions. Funny though lol

But heavy 223 bullets must be for shooting 1000 yard plus! Thats what I was hearing lol.

Joel, you aren’t getting pushback. But no one here is making those decisions. So complaining to people on this forum is useless.

I agree with Buckmastr on this. Start showing us pictures of what you aren’t doing please. It’s getting old.

There's a LOT of people out there stacking big game with heavy for caliber 224" bullets. Someone just posted about how they do it. There's a great thread on Rokslide forum thats up to just about 250 pages now. This is why your "shoot hearts instead of paper" flex was inane. That gets old too so we're even lol. Heavy bullets work great on both.

Whether or not I've done it doesn't prove anything. Never shot a moose with a 338 Win Mag yet. Gonna tell me it doesn't work because I haven't? These are facts.

Keep complaining about me complaining lol.

Unlike some I don't feel a need to take pictures of every animal I kill. Or posting them here. You do you, boo.

No pushback? Okay just some really weird whining from some of you guys who can't help but respond lol.

Joel, I’ve been shooting heavies in the 223 for a very long time. You haven’t. Those are the facts. Lol.

Good for you. Want a cookie?

Also completely irrelevant to this conversation. You could have shot a million of them. That's great. Whats it got to do with anything?

Don't even need heavy for caliber. Guys up north have been using 22-250 for caribou for ages... Hell I recall a thread from years back where a guy here took a deer with a 22 hornet and a tsx... wouldn't be my choice but he had the pictures...

True that! Wouldn't wanna even guess how many animals...

But man, they don't do what the heavies do. I'd challenge anyone to guess what caliber/cartridge made some of those wounds...
