22 barrel liner

I like to chamber first... make it as perfect as can be... and then place a .22LR case (pull the bullet) in the chamber and install the liner with the breech bolt (stripped) closed and the case head tight against the bolt face... and let the Locktite set up... basically perfect headspace... a bit tighter than a go gauge...

I LIKE THAT! Thanks for the tip GT.

But with the poor quality control in today's bulk bucket style ammo that may not have a nice crisp rim formed on the ammo I'm wondering about the idea of hedging our bets with maybe a slip of common aluminium foil in there to give ourselves a .001 headspace. Or to purposely find some poorer quality stuff with a touch of rounding in the inside corner of the rim?

Of course with match style guns using good quality "early run" dies this isn't an issue. But darned if some of the cheaper bulk stuff is up to par. I've had stuff that simply would not chamber in my S&W 17 or in my BSA Martini even when the chambers were clean.

Mind you, none of this alters the value of your tip. That is simply solid gold right there. It's more a moaning about some of the poor stuff out there for basic plinking.

Bearhunter. thanks for your description as well. And yeah, when I've used epoxy for seating a round thing in a sliding but fairly close fitting hole keeping it rotating is something I like to do too. Haven't done so with the gunsmithing yet but for other things it does come up here and there.

This sure has been a great thread. All manner of ideas from lots of sources.

Anyone know where to purchase a 22 barrel liner

Someone in Canada need to start making barrel liners.... lol i don’t know how many you would sell , but I remember asking this question years ago, I don’t think it’s as hard to get them , as it used to be ( from the USA) , but the price will probably turn most people off from buy one and getting an old girl back up and running again. Maybe it would be better to do a group buy?... I don’t know if that works anymore, but depending on the price. I would be in for anything from 1-10ish or maybe more.
Cheers
Brian
....NOT A GUNSMITH.... duck tape works better...

You won't find barrel liners any cheaper than from Brownells right now as far as I know... no one can set up and make them for what they cost...

$35 US plus mailing... that's down from $35 plus $175 export fee plus mailing

As a machinist, pay the 35$. You'll never come anywhere close to making one in 30 minutes here.

Chasseaur is local to me, and there's atleast 7 machine shops in HRM with the equipment to bore out his barrel. Making a piloted drill bit is piss easy, and if i could sell em for less then 118$ maybe i have a new side gig...

I used to do it your way and it works very well.

I quit using that method, when for some reason the liner moved forward. Might have been my error, I don't think the extractor went over the rim of the case.

Ok so what is a new liner from south of the border Going for right now? Has some one ordered one lately? I mean the full cost in Canadian dollars? $150.00? $200.00 CND? Just asking. If you could buy them for $100.-120.00 to the door , then that would be aright!
Cheers

tiriaq has a 22lr reamer so he can easily rechamber the cheaper barrels, listed at $35US for 22short chambers, which is a very good price.

However, if you have to purchase a reamer as well as a liner, your best option is to get the $99.95US liner, which comes pre chambered for the 22lr.

It's easy to google the dollar conversion for Canadian funds, then add shipping, which Brownelles's will provide.
