A guy at work has a old rifle that his grandfather gave him. He says its marked 22BB and with some quick research I see it was the first 22 cartridge developed, relying on the primer to shoot the bullet with no gun powder.

Where the hell would one find some .22 BB ammo so he can shoot his gun?

22 Bb

The 22 BB (bullet-breach) and the 22 CB (conical-ball) were developed for indoor shooting and small rodents, etc.

CCI is making the CB but loading it into a long rifle case instead of the short case.

22 BB used to come in a small round metal tin, similar to what some air rifle pellets come in today. Probably the only place you will find some is at a Gun Show, but they won't be cheap.

It is possible some of the European ammunition makers are producing it. I think the last ones I saw were italian Fiocchi. That was years ago.

There are some companies in the US such as the Old Western Scrounger that may have some.

Ya, I have some CCI 22 CB Long 29 Grain. Will those work? He was telling me he tried 22LR but the casing was to wide to fit in the chamber.

Even .22 CB shorts I'd be hesitant with, for that old filly...

Edit: Meaning they'd probably have more power, forget the dimensions!

I was buying cb short from cci last fall still.

me too, i still have a couple of boxes kicking around, .22BB is an old indoor 'gallery' or 'saloon' cartridge as stated above, its main use is target practice indoors, or very small pest at very close range. the cartridge originated in 1845 in the Flobert trget rifles. What kind of rifle is your friends?

Not sure. He also had a 12GA SxS with a Damascus barrel and another .410 which he is going to keep, but he wants to sell the 12GA. I told him to bring his reg certs in or get me the make and model of the guns and some pictures to appraise them.

So 22CB Long in a 22BB is a bad idea, what about 22CB Shorts? 22BB is what I need, anyone have any they can sell?

When I was quite young, BB "caps" as we called them, were still available. CIL made them. They came loose in a box of 100, and had copper cases and a round ball stuck in a case somewhat shorter than a 22 short case. Very quiet, and did not always make it out the barrel of my old 67 Winchester. I remember pushing at least a couple out from every box shot. The source dried up, and I have not seen any in a long while now. Interesting concept. Regards, Eagleye.

22 BB Ammo ---Found em

.
Your post got me curious, so, as I suggested, I tried the internet.

If you enter ("22 BB" ammunition) you will find several suppliers. Note: I put quotation marks on the "22 BB" and enter the word ammunition after it.

As I said, it's not cheap. There are several suppliers. Ammunition to Go advertises stuff made by Dynamit-Nobel for $22.95 per hundred. There are also several other companies, but the price is about the same.

I have some German BB caps, marked "6MM" but it is really .22. They are RWS / Dynamit Nobel brand. Two German hunting stores, Frankonia and Kettner, still list them as a stock item in their catalogs.

There is also a czech company still making it.I picked up a few tins recently. It is marked flobert ammo, but it is the small same ammo as bb cap.
