.22--Buckmark or Ruger?

What say you?

I like the look of the Ruger's but I hear the Browning Buckmark has a better trigger.

Also, to clean the Buckmark you have to remove the top via two allen screws--is this correct?

I'd appreciate your opinions!

I looked at several Buckmarkmarks & Rugers. Chose the Ruger 22/45 Mark III Hunter 6 7/8" barrel, fibre optics, because it felt (and looked, IMHO) better than the others, including the other Rugers.
The Ruger can be taken down in 20 seconds with practice and a paper clip.
I believe they are both excellent. Either way, you will have a great pistol.
 
One guy at our club has a Buckmark. The problem he had was due to shooting hi-velocity ammo in the gun. The pounding caused peening of the steel until it would not work anymore. Had to take a file to it to get it to work again.

Rugers do not have the greatest triggers in the world. I consider them spongy. I own three. One is out as a long term loaner for a new shooters at the club.

Not everyone will be able to notice the difference in different trigger feels. While important it is only one aspect to precision shooting. The trigger of the Ruger can be improved (but I have not seen any guns it was done to).

Other guns you may want to consider is S&W model 41 or a High Standard model Citation, Victor, etc. Good accurate guns with good triggers (not sure of the newest High Standards regarding triggers).

If you go for the Buckmark then shoot low velocity ammo in it. Also make sure the shock buffer is in good condition.

Just one opinion.
 
Had a Buckmark, got a Ruger, wish I had a the Buckmark again. Personally I think the Ruger is a pain in the a** to strip and clean, the Buckmark was easier and a better shooter.
 
I must be lucky I guess. I have a Ruger Mk2 that has a firm, crisp trigger. Maybe they are making them different these days. It's a decent shooter and I can recommend them. Truth is though that for the average shooter, there is not much to tell between the Ruger and the Browning. Go with the one that you like the best, and it will serve you well.
 
Triggers aside, I find that my Ruger 22/45 is a bit of a PITA to strip and reassemble. Also, the grip is on the thin side. All one piece plastic, nonremovable panels :( .
But....it's a blast to shoot, digests everything without a hiccup and is pretty accurate too boot :D .

I've had a Ruger, wasn't crazy about the trigger or take down procedure. Now I have an old Browning Challenger (Belgium made) that looks better, feels better in the hand and has a way better trigger. It cost me $185 and I don't plan to sell it.
 
That's a good deal for the Challenger, 762shooter. They're normally around $450. I got my Belgian made Challenger, with the original barrel and a target bull barrel, for $450. These guns are on a higher level than the Ruger or Buckmark.

Oh, and the trigger on my Mark III Hunter is pretty darn good, too!
