.223/.224 bullets made from swaging used .22 LR cartridge cases. What is the machine/die/press/gizmo that does that called? And where can I find one? I'm intrigued by the process.

Now I shot some of those, if memory serves they were flat base 53 gr made from rimfire brass. While I can't vouch for the guy who made them, they shot OK at 100 but wouldn't group at 200. For all I know though I got a handful of somebody's discards. Even so, I think if a guy is going to go to the expense of swaging jacketed bullets he might as well invest in good jacket material.

They're basically good for plinkers, from what I've heard. I think this setup would useful during the times .223 ball ammo is scarce.

In a recently acquired book, "Twenty Two Caliber Varmint Rifles" there is part of a chapter devoted to just that. Fred Huntington of RCBS is one of the primary names mentioned in dealing with that process and equipment required. Perhaps you could contact the technical department at RCBS and they may be able to supply you with the info you're looking for. I've always found them to be very helpful in matters such as that.

Corbins or RCE are the folks who sell the swaging equip. necessary......swaging dies and presses can get very expensive as can the jackets and pure lead wire. CH4D still sells some swaging dies as well.

That corbin link lays it out perfect. Thanks! I think it's a pretty cool idea. I have endless .22 LR cases and more lead than I can use and putting it together and shooting it into a berm somewhere tickles my fancy.
