Does that affect the performance at all?
To me it looks like a lack of quality, but does it actually effect anything.

Was in CT earlier today, and took a look at the ammo display. .22 appears to have been restocked recently, had probably 10 box's of the CCI long rifles.
Along with some "winchester super X 22 long rifle plated round nose super speed RN 40 grains high velocity 1300 FPS"
Plastic box of 100 for 7 bucks.
It looked cool, so i figured i would try a box in my 10/22 and my Browning lever rifle.

Wont get to a range anytime soon, but i did open it up, i felt the first 10, and in all 10 the bullets were seated loose. Could move the side to side along with turning them slightly.

Neither brand is a match grade. Many of the .22 ammo manufacturers make the bulk ammo. Requirements for these are not as tight as match ammo. I have never noticed any difference in this low speed ammo from shell to shell. loose or not. If you look for accuracy, then the match ammo is what you seek. I have fired many thousands of bulk ammo thru my guns and I do a lot of field shooting, and accuracy may not be super like paper shooting requires but they hit what they are meant to hit.

I use the Winchesters you mentioned and don't remember ever having "wobbly" rounds like you have, maybe you got a bad batch?...

...Now if you said you found some in the dynapoint bulk packs, that i have seen, maybe 25-50 out of 500.

Sorry if this might steal the thread, but how do you guys find that dynapoint bulk pack shoots? I have an 8" steel plate set up in my back field and shoot anywhere from 25 to 150 (-/+) yards using my Winchester 1906. I mostly use that Win'y 333 pack, but the Dynapoint packs seen to be at a good price.

Thanks.

The best .22LR ammo is at Wal-Mart or the site sponsor SFRC (the ammo source)... They sell a brick of 525 Federal "Champion" Value Pack .22LR for 20-something bucks. I got some and it appears very well made: bright shiny brass, copper plated bullets and nothing loose (well seated/crimped). Also, their primers seem a lot softer than Winchesters, which is good if you have a gun that has a weak main spring (I have a 22LR revolver that misfires a lot with Winchesters due to that... but never with the Federal ammo, as it appears a lot softer on the primer side). No duds either, they all seem to go off with a bang. Here it is :

All in all, you can't beat the price. And if you're really into Winchester for some reason, Wal-Mart also sells them.. Last time I checked, a bulk pack of 333 Winchesters (copper plated) sold for $9.99. They have 500 round bricks of that regular (lead) stuff as well.

;)

Wished I could find 333s at $9.99....I would buy a few cases. Here in the 'Peg...wallymart sells them for $13.68 for 333. ...Federal 525s at 27.99...local merchants have 333s at 17.99 and Federal 525 at 29.99.

those are the same prices they sell for here in Nova scotia.i have shot many brands over the years but all i shoot now in all my 22's is the federal 525 bulk boxed stuff and have had no issues with it.

deadeyes, just wondering where you are buying your .22 ammo here in Nova Land? I picked up a 500 box of Winchesters last week for $20 & tax from the Home Hardware in Hubbards. They are none plated 40 grain shells but should be ok for tin cans.
Thanks;

Worst ammo I have found for loose bullets is Remington gamepoints.

The worst bulk pack I have tried was the federal champion 525, it looks good but, lots of FTE's, A few FTF's, not very accurate or consistant.

Also, Best bulk pack ammo for my 10/22 target was the original dynapoint pack, all white with blue lettering.

Also Look for bricks of American eagle as it is not a bulk pack but same price where I'm at.

Most accurate ammo I have tried has been the CCI blazer, I haven't tried it in bulk only in box. Not very high powered stuff. but it is reasonably cheap.

I've shot a 1000 rounds of the Federal bulk pack posted above, fantastic ammo - never noticed any of the loose bullets in the casing, all fired except 2 - I went out and bought more after seeing how much I liked them

most of the canadian tire stores and walmarts have these rounds at the prices mentioned.but you might be lucky to find some stores that have old stock at the prices they were asking for it when it was ordered 4-5 years ago or maybe even longer.i pcked up some rifle ammo at a little store in the middle of nowhere a couple of years ago.paid 5 bucks a box for 30-06 180 grain round nose, but it was CIL and dominion which has not been produced in years.

I like the dynapoints, they are pretty accurate (I get the occasional flyer) and the "wobbly" rounds are usually not truly wobbly, for the most part they are seated properly and can only be rotated in the case.

For the price they are very good.
