.22 cal barrel liner

I recently purchased a Redman .22 barrel liner 32" long from bits of pieces in BC. I am not sure if anyone makes a 40" + barrel liner?
 
it`s for a .22 muzzleloader in flint. i`ve some beautiful curly maple that is too thin for a full size long rifle. i`ll use it to line a .50 barrel and then have the barrel down turned to an appropriate size then finish with octagon to round swamped with a couple of wedding bands. it will be fairly diminutive in how slender it will be and how small the lock will be in comparison to the length. i`ve found some liners in the states in various ODs for under $5 USD per inch in any reasonable length i wish. he will go past 40 inches. shipping will be expensive.
its just for fun, maybe rodents out to 30/40 yards.
 
If a round final profile is acceptable, you might be able to use tubing, and line it. See w ww.aircraftspruce.com. Easier than turning down a barrel.

Thoughts respecting a .22 flintlock...
Bore is going to foul like mad. Probably necessary brush and wipe between shots.
Touch hole size vs bore size. Will enough pressure be lost through the touch hole that the projectile won't make it down the 40" barrel?

i`ve seen a .20 with a 45" barrel. uses 4F. you may know the one i`m talking about from another forum. won`t go thru a 2x4 at 25 yds, but will pockmark a steel knock down with a BB tipped projectile.
i wipe between shots as a practice, even plinking.
touch hole is the dodgy part, but the beautiful thing about building it is that if its too small i can drill it bigger, too big i can cut it off and re breech. i think i would use a coned liner and start just below 1/16. and if that doesn't work, i don`t know. maybe a percussion lock.
tubing might be a better choice than a barrel.
30 inches may work as well, and cheaper to boot.
 
I shoot a 32 flinter and consider it a nuisance to shoot. I use a one of those floppy plastic ramrods because I am afraid of breaking a wood one and cleaning is a chore because of the small diameter bore. Using 3F powder and wet patches I can shoot 20 - 25 shots on a trail but the bore is definitely getting sticky for loading. I definitely would not want to go any smaller. Along the lines that Tiriaq said, seamless tubing and used as a smoothbore would probably work fine at the ranges you are likely to be shooting. I doubt the gun would be very accurate beyond 75 yards whether smooth or rifled bore, because of the small size ball

I was enamored of the idea of a small bore BP gun for a very long time, the nuisance factor eventually made that feeling go away.

I have an original percussion gun, with long .31 barrel, poor bore. Too rough to load a patched ball. I've shot it with a small wad, and a greased buckshot pellet. Actually groups well enough at short range to be used for small game.
 
Ron Smith definitely makes 22 barrel liners but I am not sure whether he could make one 40". As for importing from the USA, at least according to Track of the Wolf, the inserts cannot be exported to Canada.
 
Those who export .22 liners to Canada don't have anything close to 40 inches and the export fee is $250.
 
I have had that problem also, buy a gun to go with ammo I had.
I have never played with anything smaller than .30 and that one was a peta.
It was a sewer pipe, but nice old English rifle.
If you have to make a gun to fit the wood, why not use some old 22 barrel and make a flinter, to see how/ if it works.
Than if it pans out , you can spend the big money.
There are old Milt training rifles with long barrels, but most of those are expencive or crap.
The money manger (you know who) would say, sell the damn wood.
But than I am deaf to good advice from all the shooting.
